My view? You're doing no harm & unless you're stupid enough to give out personal details, you're at no risk. You're also not doing anything illegal, so while it's paying, get that money.
Ok it may be a bit awkward when you're having those "so what's your job" conversations & you may have to make up a story, but so what.
It's not the most glamorous of jobs, but you have to do what you have to do.
Just say phone customer service, it is in a way :rotfl:0 -
You could say you were a relief worker.0

Yes, my message is too short because :rotfl: is all I wanted to convey, you Germanic bores!
Edit: Not you, ktothema, I meant the administrators. They don't seem to like short and sweet messages.0 -

Love it. Might even give it a go0

It's up to you but if you left a telemarketing role due to the abuse/stress from strangers it might not be for you, you might get more satisfied customers but do you really think people who have rung in for anonymous sexual thrills will always be polite? Think about how it will make you feel.0

Doesn't mean that those callers don't get through to talk to you though.
They get through, the conversation starts to go down a certain line, they are hung up. The operator also has enough information to report the caller to the police, and this regularly does happen. Outcome - pa*do doesn't get his kicks, but does get a call from the men in blue.0 -
You won't be getting the top class of caller wanting to discuss literature I suspect, but a bunch of onanists wanting you to reassure them whilst they do their exercises as it were. At £1.50+/min, I cannot imagine many of them are going to want to chat too long either, so calls may be quite short, with no pillowtalk afterwards as it were. I could imagine it putting you off your own sex life TBH.
However good the rates, they are probably rates *whilst in a call*, so if you get 1*10 min call/hr it'll be low cash. How are the jobs distributed? Might be a bit like a minicab office, if you are prepared to do the 10pm-4am watch you may also get first pickings of the lucrative (whenever) watch. Beware of hidden fees, too. And of course, the income is taxable, you will be self-employed.
I don't think there is much of a market in premium sms any more - most of the basic work could be done by chatbots, or is distributed over web services so any operator can 'be' Carol, 39 from Wigan and Alicia, 19 from Bromsgrove at the same time.
The mucky TV channels which start after midnight with a live feed of a lady wobbling her backside/frontside with tacky looped music are a solid sales front for those premium services though, may be worth asking them about work. I suspect most callers don't get to talk to the on-screen lady (who may or may not actually be 'live' - if it was a video, who would know?) but just patched throiugh to homeworkers as you describe. Good sales channel. They will have to give a company name and details somewhere, so you can find out how their system works without calling the premium sucker line0
