  • My daughter was 6lb 6oz and I needed early baby clothes for ages. The newborn outfit I took to hospital drowned her.

Look at the NCT online and see if there is a nearly new sale coming up near you. Lots of bargains to be had there xx

I can't comment on how many you need, it's an individual thing I think. My lo has a wardrobe full at all times, not including vests.

    Best wishes

i agree with most of the post, only buy the basics as the amount you will get as presents, you will end up hardly using some. We bought loads of newborn stuff last time, and DD was small when she was born so had to get loads of tiny baby clothes, so all the 0-3 didnt get used till she was at least 3-4 months.

This times we have got about 5 vests, 5 bodysuits, sock and going home outfit, and a snowsuit thing. If it ends up being a girl we still have all DD stuff from last time.

I got second hand babygro's and some for presents, i had about 25, and loads of bibs, they go through loads. maybe 15/20 bibs. But you can get away with babygrows and bibs until 6/8 months, i never had the mini jeans etc, too much faff to wash and iron!!
  • I bought way too much as they really do grow faster than you can imagine. The supermarket vests and suits are the best I found. Just as good as the high street shops. I went on the theory of 1 for each day plus a spare for each day. That gives you time to wash them. Then things like cardigans you can buy bigger and turn the sleeves back. best buy ever was a baby sleeping bag. Cant recommend them enough. Saves the worry of covers getting tangly or going over babies head.

Don't count on getting loads of clothes when you have the baby, I was told this by so many people and I got none not so much as a bib lol.

I would say stock up on vests and babygrows if you don't want to be washing every day. Newborns are very sicky with explosive nappies that often leak so you will find yourself changing their outfit AT LEAST once a day!

As for outfits I would only buy a couple for when you go out somewhere , meet relatives etc as they can be fiddly getting on a fragile newborn.

The only thing I find tricky is knowing what size to buy. DD1 was 7lb 12 and had to go into prem baby clothing as everything else drowned her. She was in this for at least a month.

DD2 I thought would be the same but even the upto 1 mth next stuff was too small for her!

They have a minimum weight on them of something like 7lb - just worth bearing in mind and making sure you've got something if you end up with a teeny and have to wait a few weeks to be able to use it.

Not read all the replys but when I had my baby no one bought me new born clothes all were for 3-6 6-9 as people thought I would have loads of newborn. I had bought lots of 0-3 but even tho my baby was a big 8.12 lots looked to big so I went out and bought a few newborn items.
