As for bibs, I would definitely recommend these. They're really soft and stop any dribbles getting on baby's neck!

Another thing to note is the 0-3 and 3-6 guides are only guides! DS1 was born 9lb1 and certainly wasnt in 0-3 for very long. DS2 is 3 weeks old and was born 8lb10 and he wont last very long in them either! (I accidentally put him in 3-6 babygrow over the weekend and didnt notice for ages as it really wasnt that oversized on him!)

My daughter is 5months old and I've been dressing her in leggings and t-shirts or dresses since she was 3 months old. As have most of the of other ladies on my NCT course.

The first 3 months were spent in body suits and sleep suits but once she got a bit older it seemed right to move her into 'proper' clothes.

I would advise not letting the pile of dirty baby clothes get too big as a full wash will easily fill 2 airers and then there's no room for your own washing!

My 'must haves' are muslins and bibs, I go through 6 bibs a day with bottles so quickly run out if I don't keep on top of the washing and muslins are great for wiping up all sorts of mess :)

The only other thing I have learnt is to buy multiple sizes of t-shirts and leggings you like as the shop won't have them when your baby grows into the next size. I know you can get great bargains at boot sales and nct sales but I do also like to but he odd bit new from the super markets. I find that Tesco and Asda are great but Sainsburys clothes have odd measurements and don't fit well.

I'm sure there will be items that get worn straight from the airer or dryer and others that are never worn, it the nature of the beast really and don't feel guilty about it, pass them on to someone else who will use them :)

Lol, I'm only about 5 2 and around 6 pounds, I've had an 8 10 and a 9 6! No-one in the family knows where they came from. :D I only bought a few newborn bits this time, and all secondhand so it didn't matter if they weren't used.

Also, I'd never cope with only 6 vests! Combination of a sicky baby and stupid leaky nappies meant my washing heap was huge! I also wasn't given much small stuff, one was 6-9 and even a 12-18! And nearly all outfits, not vests and stuff.

I think you misunderstood what I said? My post said start with 6 in each size as you can always use the next size up if you run out. So you effectively have 12 usable ones in your drawer when you bring baby home, not just 6. I also said to re-evaluate once baby was here and you got a feel for how many you needed. I was a real nappy user so my machine was on every other day anyway, and that quantity worked for me. I read the original question as being about not overbuying, and that quantity was workable for me.

Newborn size is generally for a month, also it is really important to buy for the right season, If you are due a summer baby you wont need as many sweaters etc, You need to make sure that the clothing is season appropriate, My baby has lived in vests the last few weeks.

And sleepsuits with built in scratch mitts were a god send for us as baby cosntantly had mitts fall off and scratched herself.

Most of Mothercares and Nexts sleepsuits have them built in.

My baby was delivered early but now at 7 months is easily in 9 to 12 months so alot of the 6 to 9 month clothes I bought her have been hardly used.

Sorry to offend you, I quoted you purely for the weight thing, the rest was just rambling my experiences.

Last size, I did get given a big bag of vests... I had 38! Now that I could cope with, I've gone down now to 10 or so and am struggling. :D

Ohhh and you always want a few special outfits, we bought something so delicate and tender for babys first outfit ever to be worn and a special coming home outfit, my baby wore her coming home outfit for the hospital pics too xxx

Trying to work out how much to buy for our baby (due next year)

How many babygrows/vests/bibs and other clothes did you need for your LOs in each size (till about 9months)

    Thanks :)

My daughter is forever throwing up thanks to her reflux. It seemed her poo was turbo charged too as 7/10 it would come out in an explosive mess.

She would go through 5/6 changes some days and we kept her in sleepers as I wasn't going to fork out for an outfit she would ruin.

We started off with 10 sleepsuits and vests (mix of short and long sleeved) and then we brought a huge bag full of about 20 vests and 30 sleepers off eBay and we went through them like no tomorrow. Also depends how often you can/want to do laundry I guess- i only do it once a week.

Since then we have brought 5/6 packets of sleepers and 2/3 packets of vests- they don't need to wear them all the time although I will probably keep one on her at winter. Things are better now and have started dressing her in proper clothes.

I wouldn't waste your money buying new ones- I brought ones from next before she was born and they were ruined in a week. At £9 a packet its abit of a waste.
