Corgi Certificate Of Compliance

Back in Oct 2005 I had our E7 storage heaters removed and a gas central heating system installed. I never received my certificate from Corgi. I did mention it to Co who installed it and he said he would look into it. I then forgot all about it until Oct 2006 when I arranged my gas safety check. I mentioned it again and he said he would chase Corgi.
I finally phoned Corgi myself at beginning of March to see what was happening. They had no record of the installation and suggested that by asking the chap twice I had probably got as far as I would with the installer and advised me to write in to them complaining. I did this.
I received a Non Receipt Of Cert Of Compliance form detailing my complaint and it stated a copy had been sent to the installer.
Now I am confused, what happens now as it states on the form that if the installer fails to respond I will need to contact my local Building Control Dept if I need a Building Regs Cert. (By the way most of this is going straight over the top of my head)
If the installer doesn't respond is that it. Does it just get left there and I have to try and sort something out myself.
Anyone got any advise/experience of this please?

Good afternoon: My first question is...did your installer have the right to self-certify his/her work or even do the work is the first place? If you check his/her CORGI number at http://www.trustcorgi.com/consumer/requestacertificate.htmx it will list his qualifications. If he/she isn't a registered as an installer then CORGI should step in and investigate what is basically illegal gas work. If he/she is registered you should file a complaint with CORGI as the installer is required to self certify installations through CORGI to Local Building Control....a third possibility could be CORGI stuffed up!

Thanks for the reply Canucklehead. Corgi tell me he is registered and gave me his reg number. I have made a complaint with Corgi and they have wrote to him to remind him that I need a cert.
I am just confused as to what happens next as Corgi's letter basically says that if he doesn't respond and I need a buildings regs comp. cert I will need to contact my local Build. Cntrl Dept.
He doesn't respond do they just leave it there? I am not really sure what to do next.0 -
Hello again: If CORGI fails to act (and this makes a huge farce of the current system!) then I recommend you post a letter( recorded delivery) to the installer outlining your complaint and stating that he has 10 days to respond...if you hear nothing visit this site and file a claim in Small Claims Court requesting a payment in the amount of the Building Control fee plus your expenses

It worked for us several months ago when our vendor left the equivalent of 2 skips at our property.
I would also file a complaint with CORGI about CORGI. MY OH, Corgi Guy,and other installers, have had problems with CORGI so it is not just the consumer who is getting a rough ride.

You might find that the reason your installer hasnt done a 'Corgi notify' as we call it, is because of the type of boiler he fitted. After April 2005, with rare exceptions all boilers to be fitted have to be condensing, and if he had installed a conventional boiler he knows he would not have been able to notify Corgi/building control, as he would not have been following building regulations, and all sorts of subsequent problems can then arise when trying to sell your house in the future.
If however, a condensing boiler has been fitted he has no reason at all not to request a retrospective certificate from Corgi and it will only cost him £2.50 to notify them online, like we have to do.0 -

It was a vailiant Ecotech combi boiler, so are I am really puzzled as to why he hasn't notified Corgi.0 -

Maybe because he thinks it is too late. Corgi state that all gas work notifications must be made within 20 days of the installation, not all people are that up to date with their paperwork, but 18 months does seem to be pushing it a bit :rotfl:0 -
l think if l was going to call a gasman it would have to be britishgas via thier online website. They give you a one off online price for the job, their and then.
Many private gasmen r not trust worthy from my experience. Or learn plumbing and do the job yourself. Lots of online courses r out thier and dvd training courses.0 -

Didn't know about this. I did get Britsh Gas in themselves to quote but they wanted almost double everyone else and I couldn't afford that.0 -
Good afternoon: Have you had any joy yet or just the runaround?

you cant just 'do a plumbing course'. I already looked into this. you have to do a CORGI course, and not just anybody can do it. THere are certain pre-requisites and you must be working with gas regularly.
I'm facing a similar situation with a gas fire I had installed last year. The installer is apparently still current with CORGI but hasnt notified my installation (from Nov). I've tried contacting him loads of times by phone and email, he hasnt responded. I'm now going to complain to CORGI but it sounds like its a lost cause. So I already paid him £150 for a simple job, and now I have to pay another £100 or so to get it inspected so that I can sell my flat!! Ludicrous!
Nice little monopoly CORGI has there, making everyone pay over the odds for a supposed service that rarely seems to come to fruition!
Oh to get it back on topic, thanks to the people's suggestions here, I will try the registered letter to him giving 10 days to respond and also make a complaint to CORGI. My problem is really of time, my flat is already on the market and Im worried this could affect the sale!0
