I'm not too disappointed with the Ald! SS as I always need onions and also buy cabbage every week. Need to buy some tomatoes & lemons as well this week so will be buying 4 out of the 6. May also buy a swede, depending on size, to have on Sunday if I decide on a roast as we both love mashed swede with plenty of butter & black pepper!
Also need to go to Morries so will probably pick up some broccoli as well.

I will be buying 4 of the items, onions, lemons, swede and cabbage so not too bad for me but not great for making complete meals with.
I have some Blewit mushrooms growing on my lawn in the back garden, no idea where they have come from but in my foraging book it says they are edible! :rotfl:0 -
Don't forget to thinly slice and open freeze some lemons then chuck in a bag ready for Christmas drinks
I love savoy cabbage so that will be featuring almost daily for the next fortnight
We love swede too so will be using everything from the 6. Can't wait to make swede and carrot mash for the first time this season0 -
I have lots of swede, kale, cabbage, parsnips and turnips in the garden so I don't need to buy muchBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hi
I found when I had kids with hollow legs at home that value bread and jam filled them up. Also bigger portions of spuds and veg at meal times. Teenagers burn up energy and also your food budget so I always made sure that they knew what they could snack on so that they didn't eat anything planned for a meal. Scones and muffins can be made quite cheaply and frozen till needed ( scones I make and freeze uncooked and then pop a few in when I have the oven on )
I hope this helps a little

Bread pudding is a favourite in our house, I have posted a link below.
This doesn't need to be made with 'fresh' bread either so I save all the tops and bottoms of the loaves (as no one here eats them) and when I have enough I make one of these. DH has a manual job and he says it fills him up really well. I make it, last one cut into 10 pieces and then I freeze it, DH then grabs a piece from the freezer every day and take it to work with him. It is a very easy recipe and very cheap per portion :j

A quick work out of costs, this is based on Ald! Prices (apart from the mixed spices)
500g bread, £0.25p
500g dried fruit, £0.84
1.5 tbsp mixed spices, £1.23
600mls milk, £0.25p
2 large eggs, £0.18p
140g light muscovado sugar, £0.30p (on offer in A$da's for £1.00 for 500g)
100g butter, £0.38p
2 tbsp Demerara sugar, £0.04p (on offer in A!di at £0.79 for 500g)
Total cost for the whole 'pudding' will be £3.47. You can easily get 10 pieces out of this which would make each individual piece £0.34p or you could get 15 smaller pieces at £0.23p each.0 -
