I am just wondering if anyone has nice ( and frugal) recipes that use jam. I have quite a lot in the cupboard, so am trying to use it up. I have made a Victoria sponge, jam sponge pudding with custard, a bakewell tart & jam tarts over the past few weeks. Any other ideas most welcome.
Pancakes - and use jam instead of sugar or lemon
Jam roly poly
Jammy bread/butter pudding
Dollop it into rice pudding
The trouble with jam is it's hard to use it up in quantities of more than a couple of spoons.0 -
I made a cooking bag out of a quilted cotton sleeping bag(£1 jumble sale - washed before use). Works like a dream, bit bulky to stitch on sewing machine but worth the hassle. jac.xx0

Plum, apricot jams and the tarter jellies are really nice with meats.
Either sieve and spice ( a tiny bit of clove is good) and use cold
or fry the meat, add ground spice and cook briefly then add the sieved jam to make a sauce
or add a very little oil to a pan, fry some ground spices (coriander and or clove for lamb, ginger or cumin, whatever you like) until the scent is released (30 secs) and then add the jam and cook gently. You may need to add a little water or veggie water to thin down. Nice as a glaze or could be made thicker as a sauce. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

use raspberry jam for salad dressing just add a bit to olive oil and balsamic add to yogurt or mix with a smoothie to sweeten. mix with other fruit such as apples and pears and instead of sugar and then add crumble topping and bake. i think you could probably use it to sweeten drinks0 -

Have found that the £3.50 750g gammon joint (Asda) will stretch to at least 12 portions.
Hubby just likes to see meat on his plate, so the thinner you slice it, the more plate area is covered, which keeps him and other meat freaks happy.0 -
An electric slicer is a great investment when you are trying to stretch any meat.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Today we are having jacket potatoes with left over spaghetti bolognaise as I had a little left over from last week but not enough for 2 people. We will also be having cheese and beans on our jackets.
Cost of potatoes, 3 x 30p......90p
Cheese, 40p
Beans, 23p
Left over bolognaise, 40p
Total cost of dinner, £2.03 between 3 of us so 67p each.0
