Hi peeps im in urgent need of help here.
My mother has just come to me nearly in tears because she has just received a letter telling her that she can have the costs of my granddads continuing healthcare back - albeit for 2 and a half months!! yes you read that right, 2 and a half months.
she claimed from when he was put in the care home which was february 2010!
i can't understand how the whole claim was started in 2012, and she got a letter a month or so ago explaining that the pct panel had AGREED that my granddad has needed continuing healthcare, which made her hopeful to get the costs back. yet now this insulting letter arrives, showing that they'll pay back the costs from nov 2013 to feb 2014 - I'm just disgusted!
I'm awaiting a call back from the continuing healthcare administrator as we speak.
does anybody know what my mum or i can do now?? she's lost for words honestly especially after last months letter gave a lot of hope when they admitted (in writing) that it was an eligible claim.
please any help/guidance as i feel like banging my head against the wall, thanks guys0 -

There should be an appeal process to appeal this decision. I believe the CHC system is now administered by GP commissioning groups as PCTs no longer exist. You will be given the opportunity to present your arguments to an independant committee.0 -
The Welsh government has set a deadline of 31st July for retrospective CHC claims dating back to April 2003. (ref: Hugh James Solicitors advert)

Alternatively save yourself money because the forms, instructions and information and telephone help line numbers are available form the Welsh government for free.

What is the role of a CCG (it seems to mean Clinical Commissioning Group) My local one has been advertising for comments on the need for "end of life care" ?
Here we go again for problems interfacing between the local council and the NHS. I bet the boundaries don't line-up
Yet more confusion?0 -

NHS continuing healthcare
So now we know. How do I find out the details of my local, CCG and then how can they be lobbied ?
Oh dear doctor knows best ? Ho hum in a working lifetime, I have found two really serious examples of misdiagnosis by the medical profession, that would have had life changing effects on the individuals involved.
So what is the appeal process - sounds a lot like getting a solicitor to sue a solicitor.0 -
I have now collected approx 48 copy cheques at a cost as proof of payments to the care home. It will be just my bad luck for not to have the claim succeed. Here's hoping.0

Hi, just looking for some light at the end of the tunnel. Has anyone been paid out yet?0
-
Hi
Yes I have been paid, after winning the case they still played games offered me the lower of the interest calculations, made no offer in respect of the costs I had incurred, it took approx another 3 months to resolve, I managed to get the higher of the interest paid and £500 for my time and expenses, an insult when you consider the time, effort and cost that was incurred, but I had by this point lost the will.
The NHS finance payments department I had to deal with was in India!! Dealing with them was also challenging to say the least, week after week I was advised I had been selected to be paid, only when I advised them I would contact the Ombudsman did I get a call asking for my bank details and they did a transfer.
Hope this helps, good luck, don't give up.0
