We have been a few times and never had or needed jabs.(decided on advice given by my GP)
Some are recommended but none are required

We have been to Tunisia many times and have always had the jabs - AFAIK jabs are free - well we have never been charged by our doctors anyway, and we have used 3 or 4 different ones over the years due to moving house.0

i went to port el kantaoui last summer
stayed at the royal kenz and had a fabulous time. the excursions we went on and loved was to see the roman ampitheatre at El Jem. so i would strongly suggest doing that. Sousse was awesome as well
remember though when you are in teh bazaar, the price they ask is about 3 times the price you want to pay. i got some lovely wooden salad bowls and pestel & mortar set for like 5 pounds. be careful of your clothes as well. the locals will try to barter for any football jerseys or trendy clothing names you see.
dont buy perfume from the streets. it is fake and i have heard of some people getting bad rashes from it
get to know you waiter in teh hotel. a small tip on teh first night will ensure good service throughout the holiday.
last but not least try a bedouin feast. the food is very good and typical tunisian entertainment and lots of alcohol
ahh good times

Just wanted to say have a fab time. We stayed just outside Sousse last year and had a brilliant time. Weather is absolutely gorgous. We did the Sahara Explorer trip. It was the best 2 days of our holiday. Also went to port el kantoui quite a bit, lovely shops and restaurants. We also did a boat trip from there which was great.
Went to El Jem (roman amphitheatre) which was amazing, also took a coach trip up to Tunis (the capital) and went to the roman mosaics museum and had a walk through the main market bit.
We tipped the hotel waiters and pool attendants quite a bit and they really made sure that we were well looked after.
Take some toilet tissue with you if you go out and about. Tunisian public toilets are not quite up to our standards and often don't have toilet roll!
Also take some tablets for upset tummies with you. Both OH and I had a touch of diarrhoea while we were there, but not really bad and it didn't ruin the holiday or anything.
Am just jealous, you will have a great time.

I stayed in Hotel Tour Khalif in Sousse in 2000 , it was pretty good.
Clean , with big rooms , very nice Bathrooms, good pools, and Marble all over the place. plus the beach is right at the bottom of the pool . staff were okay , and food was reasonable ( no upset tummies ) if not Spectactular.
My big tip is get a bottle or 2 of duty free sprits on the plane on the way out if you are planning on getting tipsy as , alcohol is only sold at hotel bars for tourists ect. and is not dirt cheap
you will need to be on you Guard with the Locals though. never buy anything of the people in the streets, they are very persistant and clever, i only got caught by one who offered me a free gift   and then asked for a small donation and then went off with my big bill after he promised change.
also avoid the jewlery shops in Sousse medina, they will try to drag you in and they got quite nasty when we tried to leave , and then followed us out and tried to get us buy some piece of tat with the story that he had just pinched it cause the manger was not in and we could have it really cheap. he got even nastier after that when i ignored him.
even in the proper shops you will have to Haggle for pretty much everything thats not food. they start at 100 you offer 50 and you meet somewhere in the middle is how it tends to go. i got a very good leather bag that has since followed me all over my last 7 years of travel as my hand luggage. there are some pretty nice things in places like Sidi Bou Said street stalls and Hammet market
Port el Kantoui is quite nice , and the trip we did to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis was great, as was the trip to Hammet market. i would advise you get escourted tours with your tour operator though
just have you wits about you and be properly secure and you will be fine. i enjoyed our vist
P.S did have three jabs before going and a top up for i one of the Vaccines when i got back to give me 10 years protection instead of just 1 year. got all mine from our doctors free of chargeBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Definately do the Sahara trip!
Remember this is a Muslim country, so no fry ups, no bar culture as such, dress modestly or the local men will view you as fair game. We were in Port El Kanoute (sp) )
Do not go into carpet sales shops which are generally proper shops, not market stalls. We were even warned by one of the hotel bar men that these places had been known to scare tourists into buying items, by locking doors/blocking exits, as well as told by the rep to steer clear."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I went with a friend a few years ago 2 single blonde girls and we didn't get any hassle or expereince unwanted invasive behaviour. We did the overnighter to Sahara and fully recommend it especailly the 4x4 into the mountains. I can't rembmer that hotel either but seeing my friend tomorrow and she usually remembers details like that I'll post it if she does.LBM 03/07 £44k:eek: DFD 31/12/17 :A 12/17 £2545.50
