No, the question was are they authorised. They are not.Fifer - your speculation is incorrect on a number of levels. I did not disagree with the charges, but the question was could they do it - the answer being yes.
The Direct Debit only authorises agreed payments. Unauthorised debits must be returned upon request. The OP provided a DD to allow funds to be taken in payment, there is no link to any explicit contract required, and it is this error I am pointing out.
No, it isn't 'above board'. The DDM is for unspecified agreed amounts, notified in advance. As for the amount being 'unauthorised' by whom? O2 were given a mandate to take payments, so the authorisation is complete. If what you meant is that the OP didn't authorise it explicitly, certainly - but irrelevant, the DDM was for unspecified amounts on unspecified dates, so all was above board.
Sorry, but that's not true. The DD guarantee would apply here. If the OP request the transaction reversed, her bank os obliged to do so. I've had it done in similar circumstances. The laughable guarantee scheme would not apply here - only an indemnity in favour of the bank will permit a reversal, and then the credit file destruction begins. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
