With that budget, I would look at 1000cc Toyota Yaris - they are group 2-3 insurance."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

Are they asking £1000 for it? I think that's overpriced then. Look for something else.
But on the Clio - I think they are a great choice. there are a couple of years/models that have been pigs, but they are some of the more recent ones. Older model Clios are what I've driven for last 15 years and I'd like another one when I come to replace this one. I've found them extremely economical to run, very reliable, cheap as chips to maintain, cheap to repair when there is rarely a problem, and surprisingly spacious inside. They've also got me through some awful driving conditions (mud/snow/ice) where lots of other cars were getting stuck. I love my old Clios:DCash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Any second hand car can turn out to be a great buy or a complete nightmare. It's the risk you take unfortunately.
I had a clio (albeit a few years newer on a 56 plate) and had a couple of issues with it but nothing major. One thing I can say is it was a great little car, and it was fantastic in the snow. Never got stuck once compared to the Focus I had before which was terrible in the bad weather.
Used cars are a gamble. Take someone who knows what they are looking for.0 -
10 year old clio is a terrible choice... the electrics will probably have a mind of their own by now. Remember you absolutely have to budget for repairs - unless you have proof of a cambelt change you'd need to get one done, plus suspension parts, exhausts, water pumps etc will all have seen much better days on a 10 year old car. What about a 1.25 Fiesta - at least parts are readily available, mind at that age the fiesta would be rusing away!0
