Ive been searching round for a small, cheap yet decent car that i will be able to afford and maintain whilst working and at college..
I am currently looking at a 2002 RENAULT CLIO 1.2..
This is the dealers website - http: //goo.gl/ VhgnM
Now it also says in the cars desciption that it is "Part Exchange Vehicle Priced To Clear" Can someone tell me what this means and also would this make a good buy for a first car?
Thanks

Take someone with you that knows something about secondhand cars, take it for a long test drive and check everything!
The trader would of paid next to nothing for this Clio as the punter traded it in for a newer car as his one probably needs work or will need work.
Either have a budget for repairs or look for another car.
Personally I would stay away from french cars but you pays your money and takes your chances with cheap second hand cars."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Have a look round the web for car forums related to the model you are looking for. A lot of forums for specific models will have buying guides that helpful members will put together so you know what to look for specific to the car. Heres one for the Clio http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=13179
Would also really recommend trying to spend a couple of hundred quid less you have on the car you buy, bank that and if something does go wrong its not the end of the world. Lot of very cheap 2nd hand cars out there at the moment so you should have plenty of choice.0 -
Says requires a little TLC, MOT means jack all about its condition it was done near 6 month ago. Run a mile if you haven't a clue about cars.
Look at daewoo kalos/lanos, daihatsu sirions, suzuki alto/ignis/liana etc etc. Unless you have a degree in electrical engineering, avoid anything french out of warranty0 -
MK 2 Punto far better bet at that age.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

I wouldnt buy any s/hand car that didnt have 12 months MOT on it. Otherwise you might be buying a lemon that will cost a packet ot the next MOT, so you want 12 months out of it to start with just in case. A car over 8 years old with no MOT is imo worthless, or at last worth only scrap value.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. Stupid person thinks MOT is an indication of the mechanical state of a vehicle.
It isn't. It is merely an indication OF A SMALL SET OF TESTED ITEMS at the time of test.
It is possible to pass a MOT with:
A worn cambelt/chain
Completely knackered bottom end of the engine.
Knackered clutch.
Missing or crunching gears.
Completely shot brake shoes.
Faulty alternator.
A fist sized hole in the floor as long as it isn't within 30cm of a structural component.
Battery on its last legs.
Shot electric windows, central locking, alarm, mirrors, sunroof, heater motor, rear demist, rear washwipe, speedo.
It is perfectly possible to have a car pass a MOT and the engine grenade a mile down the road.0 -

Soo, should i look for somethin else (either older, cost less?) Also, this cat a-f and insurance group stuff is still alittle confusing, any help on that front?

Some pumter just offloaded this shed onto me as a part ex. But i gave them peanuts for it anyway.
So can offer you the delights of a clapped out shed for a bargain price.
PS. Its a cheap shed, So don't bring it back.
I think it may mean something like that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
