I would be tempted to send them a message like:
Thanks, I received the item yesterday. One tip from me, if you're sending a note to the buyer asking for high ratings, make sure the date on that note isn't one week later than the date you marked the item despatched, thus highlighting the fact that you were slow to post out.0 -

Ha!
Actually you have really hit the nail on the head. As this item wasn't urgent I hadn't really even taken note of the fact that it was a bit slow arriving, and probably would have just left a positive once I had checked the item was perfect.
It was just I saw the printing date and that made me check when I bought it and when I had got the despatch notice , and then I checked the seller terms of 'guaranteed despatch same or next day' that I realised something was amiss.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm feeling very mellow so have left no feedback at all and was not planning to do so as I feel I have been grumpy of late and don't want to do anything in haste. However, I suspect I may well get a request for feedback, as there is a brief mention in other feedback that suggests this might be a seller who will email asking me to leave feedback (they have not left any for me yet)- and if they do that then I will reconsider.
Also despacth star is currently at 4.6 so another low may push them over and I can live without the guilt. (it wasn't 4.6 when I bought last week, but 4.7 I htink as that tends to be about my limit without a bit more research.
Well that's very diplomatic of you, although I don't think you have need for guilt. We all make our own decisions and this seller decided to lie to you about the dispatch time and try and fool you into thinking the delay was on Royal Mail's side. IMO, that would instantly qualify as a getting marked down, if not an outright negative. It would be a different matter the seller has contacted you to say there was a delay, or marked it not dispatched had they made a mistake or something had genuinely happened to stop them on the way to dispatching... but I think given the DSRs already, that looks unlikely. I suspect this is normal practice rather than a one off, and it's exactly this kind of person Ebay could do without.
Hmm, maybe I am the grumpy one. I'm just annoyed that the thing I ordered Monday night still hasn't been dispatched, despite my paying extra for 2-3 day delivery. It definitely won't get here in time, and definitely not within 2-3 days. Not sure whether to open a INR or just send a cancellation note and hope they cancel it. It's no use to me if it arrives next week so I don't want it then; I'm going to have to cobble something together of my own out of spare parts and duct tape (thank heavens for that soldering iron my brother bought, and hours watching Macgyver.

Sounds reasonable, Soo - my instinct was such when I made a repeat purchase from someone I'd previously been upset with over postage. They had OOAK items, though - had there been a competitor for that exact same postcard (part of a Soviet series I've been trying to collect for years!) I would have gone elsewhere, and they had a very competitively priced vintage silk tie that my boyfriend liked.
When I made that purchase I did leave a 4; when I went back for another card - again, OOAK, part of a Latvian Soviet series which are always relatively scarce - I left 5*s as they didn't overcharge by much that time - I think it was the combined postage (or lack thereof) on the first sale that pushed me into leaving a 4.
I think you may have been right not to leave feedback. Sometimes I'll buy thinking the low average ratings are a blip - if it's not 100% urgent. Sometimes they are vindicated - the feedback seems unfair or they have taken note of the slippage, because the item comes quickly without hassle. But this one would have me reaching for the feedback buttons.
I may not even have bought though. So much depends on what the item is and whether it is available elsewhere. I buy anything I need quickly in person or on Amazon or another independent website - I find eBay unreliable in terms of quality for a lot of consumer items, particularly when there is so much other choice out there. Soviet postcards though...tough one."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

If it wasn't tracked soolin, I'd be inclined to message them and say it's been a week now and you haven't received it yet (not a fake INR, just pretend it comes on Monday or Tue) and ask when they sent it.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

There is an update actually, but I still have not left feedback as I am really snowed under with ebay sales and a potential new business opportunity.
Last night I got an email asking me to leave them positive feedback with 5* as ebay require feedback as part of the transaction- then a whole cut and paste (possibly from ebay?) about how users need feedback to make the place safe and to ensure a good repuation- blah blah blah
they go on to say that if for any reason I feel unable to leave 5* I am required to contact them first as ebay will remove the feedback otherwise and they would not want an unhappy customer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
