DW Fitness want unacceptable amounts of personal data

  • They use the data to confirm your identity.
  • They use the data to confirm your identity.

But that doesn't explain why they want to keep copies of the paperwork on file.
Once they have seen that the photo id matches the person applying for membership and have seen the utility bill or bank statement to confirm that the named person lives at the stated address, they should have no further need for copies of the paperwork.

I have no objection showing proof of id or address to anyone who legitimately needs it, but I would object if they wanted to keep photocopies for no apparent reason.

And the OP told us in post #6...

I have spoken to Head Office today who said that customers have an option not to have their data photocopied.
After that statement, is there still an issue, OP?

There could be if they said no you cant join unless we are allowed to photocopy.
I don't see the need for them photocopy them once you have passed the initial security screening.
Show them what they need to see they then tick the boxes pay by card and that should be it.
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I'm not getting your point...the OP has an option to join without the ID's being photocopied as per Head Office phone conversation.

Customers have an option not to have their data photocopied but it does not say it wont jeopardise their chances of being allowed membership.
Where does it say she would be allowed to join ?

    That's silly.

A potential customer is free to not supply any identity documentation.
    That may harm their application.

Surely if they are customers, they have been allowed to join?

Clearly she has not joined. We will find that out if and when she does try and join again.

But iF the OP has sent you a pm to say they allowed her to join then clearely I was mistaken but I can only presume that you have the same information as the rest of us.

You two are great for the site but nitpicking is of no value and it goes on far too much in this section of MSE.

Well if there are then let's hope they come here and let us know.
Are you a member ? do you know anybody that has joined.
You clearly know more about this than I do.

    You talk about nitpicking...

I ask the OP a simple question and you come up with some garbage.

I'll leave you to resolve this one.

    I'm out.
