Kingspan v Insulating foil

I have bought a house with a loft room with no insulation at all. I was going to put Kingspan on the walls but a friend recommended Insulating foil http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Constru ... 738/p23646 . He said it is easier to put up, cheaper and much quicker. He said it is just as good but I can't find any info on the thermal qualities to compare the two. Has anybody used it and would they recommend it?

Thanks

Kingspan is well developed, you are going to struggle to get anything that has the same insulation properties that is any thinner

someone trying to sell insulation but not giving insulation values probably tells you all you need to know

My friend put it in his loft and said it was very good.

maybe, but I'd still rely on the actual insulation values and to me, the fact that they haven't given any for the foil means it isn't very good

    Thanks for your replies.

Think I am going to play it safe and do the job right first time with the Kingspan/Celotex option.

Another question - Do I have to cut it to go between the beams or can I leave it in one piece on the outside?

Don't you have any particular u-value targets to work towards or are you simply chucking in extra insulation? Kingspan will allow you to meet any u-values that are required whereas that foil insulation you have linked to is probably more suited to insulated a tired runner after a tough marathon.

The house is a repo from somebody who just moved back to Spain and just left it. He must have had loads of money and not been worried about bills. The loft has no insulation at all so I have no u-value target and anything is better than nothing. I am getting free insulation off EDF next month and want to insulate the walls first while I can still see the joists to stand on.

Hubby cut ours to go between the beams. Don't know if you have to though.

I know it normally goes between the beams but it is less work if I don't have to cut it and a lot quicker.

I'd guess kingspan will have a technical dept, my concern would be air movement behind the insulation but they will know for sure

This product looks to be very sadly misdescribed as insulation as a 1mm thick metallic product. It is a vapour barrier and no more.
