    Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help. I have bought some vases on offer in Homebase for our sweet table which were good value. Does anyone know any good websites or places to buy sweets at a good price, I do not have access to a Macro or Costco as do not own a business. If anyone is able to help that would be appreciated.

    Thanks x

We bought most of ours from a seller called mhor_sweets on ebay. A lot of sellers will give you the 7th kg or bag of sweets free if you buy 6 of the same size.

A lot of sweets at Tesco seem to work out at £4-£5 per kilo if you buy them in packets (before discounts such as 3 for £2 instead of £0.89 each)... at least thats what I worked it out as, which is likely to be wrong so feel free to correct me!

Eg Strawberry Bon Bons 200g £0.89 (£0.45 per 100g or £0.34 if you buy 3 for £2) which would work out at £4.50 or £3.40 per kilo...is that right?

Loads of other stuff in the 3 for £2 too http://www.tesco.com/groceries/SpecialOffers/SpecialOfferDetail/Default.aspx?promoId=A29889205

I think if we decided to do a sweetie buffet we would probably go with a mix of supermarket sweets and online for the ones we can't get a good price on!

I guess the biggest disadvantage would be having to open all the packets to empty them into jars and also buying the jars. Althought the cookie type jars in Tesco are about £1.20 each which seems good value to me.

  • In the last week I have made some progress on the sweeties :j I got 8 bags of Haribo Starmix (215g) in Tesco as they were on offer at 70p per bag, and also 6 bags of little rolls of Love Hearts from Poundland, each bag says it has approx 16 rolls, although I opened one and it had 17 in :) I was in town anyway, so saved on postage costs too!

CompBunny we are getting what we can at good prices in the supermarket and high street shops and will order the more 'obscure' ones I can't find in the shops. I'll be getting some of the supermarket value sweets as well, like toffees and mints, to pad them out a bit! And by buying the jars and things, hopefully they can be sold on afterwards :D

I just have to leave everything at my parents, otherwise they DEFINITELY wouldn't last until next July! :rotfl:

laura, will everything last until your wedding day date wise? I read somewhere that things like chocolate only have a shelf life of 6 months or so.
  • Yep, I've only been buying things that have a BBE date of October 2013 or later (wedding is in July 2013). Some of the things I have bought have dates of 2014 which is pretty good. Thanks for checking though :)
