send them that letter again

The OP has a report that a component has failed. This isn't much use, we already now that. What is needed is an independent report from a qualified engineer that states the failure occurred due to an inherent fault ( rather than misuse , damage etc)0

Agreed, that's what I obtained as soon as Sainsburys requested it.
If you're interested the failure is of the SM and SC PCBs, which is apparently a common fault seen on Panasonic plasmas of that era.0 -

Did the report state that it was a fault inherent at manufacture though, your first post read to me that they diagnosed the fault and quoted for repair, and that your research indicates this is a common failure.0 -
Whilst it would be nice to explicitly state this, it isn't necessary if it's clear that the fault is down to something, or associated with something the customer has no input with, ie, a "premature failure" of an internal component such as the one described here. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is enough to satisfy the standard of proof required.Did the report state that it was a fault inherent at manufacture though, your first post read to me that they diagnosed the fault and quoted for repair, and that your research indicates this is a common failure.0 -
jonnyd281, I take your point, the engineer indicated to me that it was a common failing and should be obvious as such, but I will ask him to make a quick comment on the state of the unit, that it appears well looked after etc.
I don't think the issue is whether there was a 'fault' at manufacture, obviously it was not broken when I got it, as the TV worked fine for over a year, but that the product is not of sufficient durability to last a reasonable period of time.0
