  • Hello! How was the wedding? Saw some lovely pics of Grace on FB but couldn't be bothered to scroll thru them all on my phone :( (internet engineer coming again Mon). I've cobbled something together just to record how much I fill up by, how many miles i get to the £1 and how much I've claimed, just to track if I'm left with any surplus. Unless you can think of anything else that might be useful?

Track the cost of fuel each time you fill up, useful if in 6 months time theres been quite the rise in prices for you to go to them and get an increase in your travel costs from them. Also distance covered per tank and proportion of that which has been to/from work. Again to get more money out of them in 6 months.

Wedding was absolutely awesome, Grace almost stole the show :rotfl:
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

  • Hi NIM, I did think about tracking the price, but it makes no difference to me in real terms, I just want to know what I'm actually spending and getting back. No point whatsoever in trying to get an increase because it's a university-wide travel policy and they reckon they're doing us a favour by giving us it anyway.

Well, we seem to have internets for the moment which is lovely, means I can actually do a bit of an update and not have to try and sneak one in at work tomorrow. It's been a fairly quiet weekend, lots of relatives, bit of running and lots of tidying/organising this evening which I'm so happy about! Feel so much lighter when I can walk across my bedroom like a human and not some kind of mountain goat.

I haven't actually done a proper update since the 4th so it's a bit of a general one:

Health - Kept more or less to my calories, although had a relaxed weekend again. Sober September is proving strangely hard - I hardly drink really but of course now that I'm not 'allowed' to, I really fancy a glass of vino all the time!

I had to abandon the Shred on Friday as my knee was really hurting, so I've given myself a rest over the weekend and will try again tomorrow. I have run twice - on Weds and on Sat - hip is niggly, but I'm certainly not hobbling like I had been. Going to keep just going steady with it, I can feel I've been inactive for a while so won't be getting any PBs anytime soon anyway!

Not expecting a loss tomorrow (weigh day) and wouldn't be surprised with a gain TBH.

Wealth - I had packed lunches every day at work last week and managed 4 NSDs. Spends were as follows:

    Weds:
    £5 - GNR sponsor for a friend
£2 - fly spray (seems to have solved my mozzie problem - hurrah!)
    £31 - Grandma bday presents
    £8.50 - a book - just a bit of bedtime reading
    £6.79 - groceries
£68.52 - ticket to a play OFF BROADWAY! (not counting this as it's coming from my NYC budget)
    TOTAL: £45.79

    Saturday:
    £1.50 - coffee
    £6 - 2x GNR sponsorship
    TOTAL: £7.50

    Sunday:
    £5 - GNR sponsorship
    £1 fabric (car boot sale)
    £5 raclette machine (CBS)
£1.40 books (CBS - which I need like a hole in the head)
NUS card - £15 (!! this has gone up!! But will pay for itself by Christmas)
    TOTAL: £27.40

Wow, it's quite scary how it all adds up, which is the point in a spending diary I suppose. I know all the sponsorships may seem a little excessive and it's the downside of running with a club I guess, when the Great North Run comes around - but they all gave generously when I did the Race for Life in May so I'm happy to give it.

Happiness - Spoke to a friend and turns out her cousin is a primary teacher and runs a breakfast club - she's going to put us in touch. Hopefully I can go along to the BC as an addition to any work experience, as I won't actually have to take time off for that. Other than that no real progress :o I'm hyper-aware of how fast time is passing and really [STRIKE]want[/STRIKE] need to get some work experience sorted for before half term this week. I feel happier that I've sorted other bits of 'life admin' over the weekend though, and feel I'm better placed to concentrate now.

And that's it for now. Off to bed as tomorrow will no doubt be busy (had no access to my files since we moved so had 90+ emails to respond to when I left on Friday )

  • Well I've weighed in and I have had a loss, but only 3/4lb. SO. No more of this going over my calories by 100-200 and thinking "Oh well, it's still a lot less than the 1800 recommended amount" - back on it today!!

3/4lb loss is still better than a gain, well done :T
Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j
  • Thanks Beccie - it's given me a kick up the bum anyway!

Well we still don't have access to any of our systems which is just fabulous. I have a million and one things to do and no means to do them. At least my manager's at the old office so I can go on the internet in the dead time.

In other news, it's raining! So exciting to be able to look out at the rain from our WINDOWS! (I love being cosy inside when it's horrible outside- much better than looking out at lovely sunshine!)

I had a wonderful weekend, chatted to someone else who's doing a career change and am going to pick her brains for info as she's on the course, but will be starting in September 2013 and doing the Maths Enhancement Course before then, lots of lovely people telling me how wonderful they think I'd be as a teacher.

Then today. Back in the office, feeling rubbish, worrying about money and how I can't cope even with a 'decent salary'.....worried that my health (v. overweight and on heavy-duty painkillers due to arthritis (maybe I could try ibruprofen again)) will go against me when applying and I may end up unemployed, older, greyer and with a few folders of national curriculum information that won't be of any use to me.

Hopefully just Monday blues and normal service will resume later!

    Well done on the weightloss!

I love watching the rain when you are in a cosy office too.
  • Augh Kitty, hope you're feeling a bit better now! I definitely have my ups and downs and crises of confidence. My main concern at the moment is that there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for both my day job and planning my escape :o

EDIT - Hi Wendz! The rain has stopped now :(

Hi all, hope you're feeling a bit better now Kitty? Even if you don't end up teaching for whatever reason, you will feel better knowing you had the guts to go for it rather than wondering 'what if' I think?

Well done on your weight loss Tete, I'm annoyed today as I has lost two pounds on Friday but I couldn't resist weighing myself today (I know!) and I was back up to where I started. Must stick to once a week but I'm just too impatient! My calories over the week were spot on but Sat was quite far over so hopefully it won't have undone my good work. MFP made me chuckle and think of you last night, I ended up just 1 calorie under my goal (through chance not rigorous calculation I might add!) and I got the 'be careful you'll starve' warning:rotfl:

Hope work sort your systems out soon, its hard to enjoy 'quiet time' when you know there's a heap of work waiting for you isn't it?
