Cheap kettle?
Comments

It will boil no quicker than many other kettles on the market because it depends on the power of the heating element and or amount of water in the kettle. Fair enough the price isnt bad though given its stainless steel. I have a similar kettle but costs more and its painted red (Morphy Richards) but the paint is coming off after just a year of average use (4-5 times a day) so wouldn't buy another coloured kettle
Its worth noting is best to keep a kettle tip tip and clean inside de-scaling plus only amount of water you need so it will boil quicker and use less energy
I use a stainless steel thing that goes in kettle for a few quid off ebay to de-scale itBadger_Lady wrote: »This is the best kettle I've ever owned, and is just slightly more at £15:

It boils much more quickly (I get so bored waiting for my Dad's when I go to his house) and its element is concealed in the bottom so you don't have a 'minimum' amount of water to put in. You can literally put one cup's worth to save on energy.
Mine's been going strong for 5 years and is still exactly as new. And I think it looks like a much more expensive kettle than it is!0 -
That extra 45 seconds electricity could be more expensive in the long run
Electricity isn't measured in time, but in the amount of energy used. Cheap kettles tend to be fairly low output which is why they take longer to boil water, but they aren't necessarily using significantly more energy to do the same work.
Edited to add: After a brief search it would seem that most cheap kettles are in and around 1.9-2.2kw whereas the more expensive kettles tend to be around 3kw. This is arguably a major reason for the expensive ones boiling quicker - but this doesn't mean you are using less electricity, you are just using more of it for a shorter time. The 'work' remains the same.0 -

Ooh thanks BadgerLady I like the look of that one. Also they have some kind of double your clubcard vouchers offer on at the moment too so I could potentially get it for £7.50 in tokens! Going to big tesco after lunch so will have a look. Not sure if they stock kettles in store though or if you have to order and collect.0 -
thanks to a tip off on hotukdeals I ordered this one

It looks good, the illuminated water gauge works well and the eco setting gives you the option of heating the water to only 85 degs for coffee. And it doesn't leak which gives it the edge over my much more expensive last one!0 -
Thanks everyone for the input. I've been to tesco and bought the one BadgerLady suggested. For some reason it is £15.97 in store not £15! And the clubcard voucher exchange can only be done in multiples of £5 which is a bit annoying. So anyway I got it for a £5 clubcard voucher and £5.97 cash. Just tested it out and it seems to boil nice and quick. It looks good too and feels & looks better quality than the £60 heap of junk it's replacing. Hopefully it will last longer than two years too!0
