Cheap kettle?

Hi all
My kettle (breville hot cup) is making a horrible plastic burning smell and I want to replace it before it blows up!
I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment so am thinking of getting a cheap one. I've seen one for £7.99 in comet and Argos have one for £9.99. The reviews on the Argos one seem ok other than people complaining it takes a while for the plastic taste to go.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether cheap kettles are ok or a false economy? The breville cost me £60 and I had to take it back once when new because it was faulty. It's now dying at only 2 yrs old so am thinking a £10 kettle can't be much worse!

Try the Argos Value Range kettle @ £5.49. Bought one for extra capacity when we had visitors (tea addiction is in the DNA in our relatives) and now using it as our main one.0

Thanks Suzy. I just checked it out but it only comes in white and I want a black one to match my other appliances.0

Use a saucepan or microwave until you've got more money or the right one's for sale.0

So do you think a cheapie is a false economy then PasturesNew?0

I got the cheapest black kettle in Tesco almost a year ago and it's still working fine. So far it's lasted longer than the one I got from Next for over £30. Think the Tesco one was about £10.
And we use it lots, probably 10-15 times a day (yes we do drink that much tea and coffee lol)
xCan't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
Thanks zepsgal. Will be passing tesco tomorrow so I'll pop in and have a look what they've got. I forgot they do electricals.0

I've got a cheap £10 kettle from Tesco, and it's been doing fine for a couple of years now. It wasn't the "value" kettle, which was even cheaper. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I needed a kettle in a hurry a few months ago and got a Tesco value one, for about £6. It has been fine, it could pour a bit better, but I took the filter out, which helped.
Overall, it is a good little kettle.
