someone hit me yesterday. advice please on claiming
Someone reversed out of a bay in a carpark into the front of my car yesterday. I was stationary as waiting to pull into a space but had stopped to let a car pass by. He admitted it was his fault and I have a witness too. I'm third party fire and theft. I've rang Quinn and lodged claim with them but waiting on call back as it was out of hours.
I've been told so many things and am so confused. I've been told I should of rang his insurance not mine but I've already rang mine so what do I do ? Ivy been told my insurers won't recover the cost of repair or help me sort it as I'm third party fire and theft. Some people have said I will pay my excess on repairs and I may lose my 2 years no claims. Also been told my insurance will be higher next year even if not my fault. Doesn't seem fair that I'm affected when not to blame ?
Is there anything I should of done that I having done ? If I'm going to be affected by losing no claims or higher insurance next year am I better off paying privately to get it done ?
I'm just so baffled by so much conflicting information

You will need to advise your insurers in any event. Some people have a nasty habit of changing their stories once they have had time to think.
I take it you got all his details? Your first step is to obtain a few estimates from local insurance approved body shops. Once you have done that, write directly to the TP indicating that you will be holding him 100% libel for your damage as well as any un-insured losses. Enclose copies of the estimates and suggest he may like to pass them on to his insurance co unless he wishes to settle himself.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Ok so if my insurer isn't going to deal with his insurer and repairs why am I waiting on a call back and they said about someone coming to look at my car etc. Is it just so it's all on record but they aren't actually going to do anything about it ? Do I get the quotes and then contact his insurer and him to advise on quotes ?0

Well see what they advise when they call you back then. But TPFT cover normally means that your insurers will only pay out for a TP's damage and not yours. You will save a bit of time if you get quotes although I doubt you will be able to do that now before Tuesday.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. Wouldn't happen if people would just learn to f*cking park properly (IN REVERSE!!!).
Seriously it should be part of the driving test, instant failure if you can't reverse through a barn door.....
Anyway, his fault = your NCB is ok, but you'll loose it temporarily until the claim is resolved.
Your premium WILL go up even though it's not your fault, anything from £50 - £100 for the next 5 years. This is because people who have accidents (fault or not) are statistically more likely to have another one.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Ok yeah I see what u mean just baffled then as to why they would come out to look at my car and take such a detailed claim if I'm going to have to contact his insurer regarding my repair anyway.
They are ringing me tomorrow as not a bank holiday in northern Ireland.
Will I lose my no claims though as not my fault ? Will prem go up next year ?0 -
If your cover is TPFT then the only reason your company are doing anything is because they can sell your case to a credit hire/repair firm
More generally, your ncb will likely get suspended until it's resolved (in case it goes against you) and you'll equally likely get a non-fault loading in future premiums however it pans out0 -

yes i rang them yesterday and it happened yesterday but it was the out of hours number and they are going to call me back tomorrow so il ask them for more info on how its going to affect my no claims and that.0 -
Lauram the quickest and easiest way.
Ring your own insurance people and tell them it is for 'information only' Ask them if your premium will be affected, some do and some don't. It's unfortunate, but it does happen even with a non fault.
Ring the other parties insurance people. They will probably already know. So deal directly with them.
They should instruct you to go to a garage, the garage will email them the quote, they will instruct the garage to carry out the work, they will carry out the work, you go pick your car up, the garage gets paid directly from the insurance company. It really is as simple as that.
That way there is no farting about with claiming excesses back, no waiting, no nothing, its happened to me twice in the past couple of years.
Everything can be sorted in a few days.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
