Love that! Should be added to sticky thread perhaps, about how to deal with phone calls.

Not everything the guy said made sense but he wasted 16 mins of Roxburghe's time, got them to agree not to ring again as it was harassment, and most importantly he remained calm and polite throughout the wind-up!

  • I'm watching these now - and the first letter they seem to have got was 6th August (that's what he said and requested a photo) and by 22nd they've got a letter from solicitors - I personally would've pooped myself and paid it - I'm glad I've seen this on here if ever I'm in this position. Thanks for sharing it.

I don't think he said he's got a solicitor's letter but they are nothing in this instance. Would you honestly have fallen for it?!

We all play a nice game of snap when we get another fake PCN and all the predictable template letters! They are all shown in pics in our sticky thread:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2214803

Also watch the Watchdog clip linked there if you really would have fallen for this generic scam. Nothing happens, no court, nowt, and the matter of who was/wasn't driving is not going to be relevant in the future from 1st October. The matter of the charge being an unlawful, unenforceable penalty issued by a third party who have no proprietary interest in the car park, still will be relevant though!

The whole letter-chain rubbish from a PPC and Roxburghe/Graham White or whichever 'debt collector' is just like a series of phishing emails, impersonating authority and trying to part you from your money. Treat it with the same contempt = delete/ignore. The only other difference from 1st October will be that we may well tell people to use the 'POPLA appeals procedure' if offered (we will probably come up with template paragraphs for appeal). That's because the POPLA procedure will cost the PPCs £27 plus VAT every single time, whether they 'win' the appeal or not...and even so, the outcome is not binding on the motorist nor on any small claim judge!

So then everyone can carry on ignoring, happy in the knowledge they personally have cost the PPC over £40 in POPLA fees, plus p&p and man hours wasted!

coupon-mad do you think it could be the beginning of the end for PPCs if they get loads of people appealing?

Maybe. Maybe not. I still have my doubts about the private ticketing companies actually paying the appeal charges. They don't pay CCJs.

But will they have an option on this, unless they drop it completely ? For example you appeal to a ppc and they turn it down, you insist that it goes to popla, now they either drop the invoice there so it ends right then, or it goes to popla and a defence will be submitted etc
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • the woman that kept butting in was annoying I thought....but an enjoyable listen

I honestly think this could mark the end of some of the smaller PPCs, certainly.

I can't see them getting away with not paying POPLA when invoiced by LondonCouncils, who are of course very familiar with bailiff firms!

And if they sign up for POPLA they have to abide by it, or I suspect they won't be able to continue to get vehicle data. The PPCs are stuck between a rock and hard place - the forums are the ones who will be 'leading the squeezing' - and they know it! :rotfl:

As far as im aware the new appeals system is for BPA members, and by being on the BPA AOS they get access to the DVLA data base automaticaly.
So if a PPC went down the charge notice in a convincing envelope stuck to a car route, with all the details inside and working on the asumption that most people pay up, whats the point of the BPA AOS scheme, plus if they realy realy want to then they can aply for a V888 form the old way to get driver details.
