Fashion valley mall is the place to buy winter coats, they are often on sale, got mine there at Saks 5th Avenue, was discounted to $130, this was 5 years ago and I am stil wearing it.

I love San Diego, great choice! we stayed at the Hilton on HC, not too expensive, the Handlery looked nice though.

Gaslamp quarter is lovely, would love to stay there next time...or at the Coronado...that's where Edward met Mrs Simpson! Fashion valley mall is amazing, some of the best shopping i've seen in California. Drive up the coast and have a look a la jolla, and don forget SD zoo....seaworld and the old town, all worth a visit..oh and some fab museums in the park.
    Have a great time!!!

I'd disagree with that - stayed on HC south a couple of times and it's only a 5 minute walk to the trolley

And what did you do in the evening, as the trolly stops around 7:00pm

S.D is wonderful we`ve been there 4 times. We always stay at Days Inn motels.
There is a good one on Pacific Boulevard just minutes from the promanade where you`ll find many restaurants and interesting sights / activities including USA warships at berth.

Days Inn is not far from little Italy and the trolley service. Cannot remember prices paid but we found it good value for money.

Whilst there you must take the `Tourist Trolley Bus` excellent day out but catch the earliest one possible as there is a lot to see. Its one of these hop on hop off type trips.

I have stayed at the Omni and it was fabulous, if you can make your budget stretch I would definately recommend it. The restaurant was incredible too with the freshest seafood I ever tasted. Going to Coronado beach is a must, we were lucky enough to see some of the US marines training wooooooo and the zoo is a great day out
