San Diego does not do budget but nice!
A few tips :-
https://www.travelzoo.com has the Omni on special, make sure you go to the US site not .co.uk, various dates $99 (Omni San Diego Hotel is a 2006 TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award for best luxury hotel.
The Omni San Diego Hotel is a four-diamond hotel.)
Priceline/Hotwire usually has the Holiday Inn, Hotel Circle at good rates, see betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com. Varying reviews on this hotel but you could try a 4* bid
http://www.southwest.com/hotfares/hotfares_hotels.html , - has a few San Diego hotels on offer, La Pensione is supposed to be a good budget hotel0 -
A few important tips.
Do not stop at any hotel within “Hotel Circle” unless you have transport, hotel circle runs alongside the interstate, and is pretty isolated without transport, although public transport is accessible.
Tourists attractions are very spread out in SD choose your location wisely.
Anything else, just ask0 -
I'd disagree with that - stayed on HC south a couple of times and it's only a 5 minute walk to the trolley0

Whatever you do dont go in June, San Diego suffers from "June Gloom", its foggy for most of June, very bizarre considering its california, and if you head out of SD into the desert its 100 degrees plus. And I agree with _Andy_, I stopped in the hotel circle, and it was a max 10 min walk to the trolley.
The seafood there is fantastic, and if your single check out the "Valley Girls" mmmmm0 -
Ive been meaning to start a thread like this for ages.
We are going on a road trip for our honeymoon between July 3 and July 20. We are off to Vegas, SF, Yosemite, Carmel, Cambria, LA, San Diego and then back to vegas.
Everything is booked except for the hotel in San Diego so the dates are fixed. The dates we are after are 15 July to 18 July so 3 nights. However we just cant find anything that takes our fancy at the right price.
Our budget would hopefully be around the £300 mark inc taxes etc and I intend to drop of the hire car before we check into the hotel so we are on foot. We came to the conclusion that the Gaslamp area might be best for us as we will be doing the Zoo and Sea World etc during the day and we were hoping to just have a stroll and a meal and a few drinks on the night time within walking distance of the hotel.
But on our dates we cant find anything for less than £300, the two I was looking at in particular was the Hotel Sofia and the Gaslamp Plaza which are both around £370.
So two questions, can anyone suggest an alternative area that would suit us for the evenings, i.e lots of Restaurants, a few bars (not rowdy ones just quiet) and some nice places to walk around. And can you suggest any Gaslamp hotels that are around £300 that get good reviews?
I'm tempted by the La Pensione deal mentioned above but the noise is a little off putting as is the lack of Aircon.
Thanks in advance.0 -
I don't remember much about it as it was some years ago (even where it was exactly) but we stayed here, it was OK:

Cheers,
From the maps its a bit of a treck from anywhere and right on the interstate. And thats also the standard hotel you get offered when you walk into a travel agent and tell them your on a budget, its obviously one of the cheapest places and is quite low down in the ratings on trip advisor.0 -
Hotel Coronado is great but very expensive. Right on the beach which glitters with gold specks. Must be some kind of sand/shell.
The hotel was used for 'Some like it hot' film . It's old fashioned but very nice.
Some years since we stayed there so may be different now.0 -
Read reviews, if it says aircraft noise, then it will be noisy. Hotel Coronado has a lot of non resident visitors at the weekend and gets crowded, I was one of them, worth a visit and the beach is great.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

We stayed there in Mission Hills/Fashion Valley a couple of years ago, we booked into a family room in the Holiday Inn was about £600 for the 2 weeks.
If your looking for something cheap to do we went to Tiujana Mexico, on a day trip a couple of times, it was $5 on the train, totally surreal, typical Mexican bars and food very very cheap, typical Mexican shops and easy to bartar. Very 'True' Mexico though, not glammed up at all, but fantastic learning experience for my kids.
We also got the train up to Disney which was a bit of a nightmare, Hotel Circle is only a 5 minute walk to the train, but you need to get a train to the big train to get you out to Disney etc.
The Holiday Inn also runs a complimentry bus to take you to the trains and does also reasonable packages to take you up to Disney etc.
Cant fault the shops in Fashion valley, awesome!!0
