  • Hello everyone, I haven't posted for a very long time, but things have been very busy! My BF and I moved in together back in march to a lovely rented house! We have been getting used to bills and things and it's a struggle but we are managing.
Today I have lots of washing to do, but we only turn our washing machine and tumble drier on one day a week and blast through the lot. We also have a dishwasher, but don't use it. In fact it annoys me because we have a tiny kitchen and it's taking up what could be useful cupboard space!
We did a really big shop at the start of the month (£112!!) so I only have to go to Asda for bread and milk and eggs which is great!
We got a book of vouchers from BF's Granny that are for free tea and cake for 2 in John Lewis every month until December, so we are going to use this month's voucher today and have a treat.
It's BF's dad's birthday tomorrow and we are going there for dinner so need to get his card and present today.
My cousin got married yesterday, but I had to work so I am checking Facebook regularly in the hopes to see some photos! My mum is away in Kent for the wedding so I hope she texts a couple to me later on!
I feel that I can be so much more OS now I have my own house and not living with my mum anymore!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

Started off bright and sunny but it has now clouded over with drizzle. We are going to BIL's today for a barbecue so I hope the rain keeps off. DS and DD are staying home, they want to do their own thing, which is fine, they are young adults and it will give them and us some space.

Hester have you thought of drying the tomatoes in the oven?

Why don't you use the DW to store your pots/pans/plates etc and free up a cupboard to use for storage?

Morning all, overslept this morning. Fabulous storm here late yesterday afternooon, wasn't too much fun driving through it but once I got home I could just enjoy it.
I will be spending today working (tomorrow too) as I am really behind. Home based today and in the office part of tomorrow. I am self-employed so it will also be a good feeling to replenish the coffers a bit after all the expense and lack of earning in the last few months. Thank goodness I had been saving before all this happened and had a store cupboard so I could keep food costs down a bit.
No idea what I will be eating for lunch today, but dinner will be HM hamburgers with potato wedges and salad.
I was going to go to the gym first thing, but my body obviously decided it needed sleep more, so will go tomorrow instead.
There seems to be a bit more good news around in the posts now......good exam results, an engagement, people managing family days out. It's nice....and to those who are having hard times or worried about something have a huge hug and know that it will resolve itself eventually and you will get through it somehow.

That's a good idea. I might need to turn it on and give it a few washes through, because it's a bit smelly and dirty. Our landlord is lovely, but his last tenants didn't look after the house and it needed a full weekend of cleaning before we could move in!

Morning all. Vacuuming and a load of washing done so far, plenty more to do though! All the jobs for this weekend are taking much longer than I expected so I'm quite far behind and probably won't be relaxing tomorrow :o

Had some fruit from the garden for breakfast - plums and blackberries. Hundreds of little kiwis grow every year but never get big enough to eat, I've now found out it's because the vines need pruning several times a year and we've never done it! The blackberries have spread and are now poking out the holly but we can't cut that back as so many birds live in it. I know the birds are struggling this year but we've got so many, even the one eyed black bird has babies. Some people might remember this time last year when it was a baby and my Dad rescued it, mum never came back and it lived in a cardboard box for ages.

    Hi all.

    RIP Neil Armstrong.

A rare Sunday posting from me; just got back from Mr T's; I had a “£6 off a £40 shop” voucher which was due to expire today. Now, I don't usually spend £40 all in one hit, but I realised we're going to need two bottles of champagne in September; one for our wedding anniversary, and a second one for Mabon. So, I thought, if I buy them in advance, along with the other few bits I need, I can use that voucher!;)

    A spot of catch-up from yesterday's thread......:o

Monnogran I do indeed remember the loo roll famine – I also remember a neighbour's child (who was a year older than me) telling her younger brother that he had to use both sides to make it go further.:D Ooh, and I just remembered also, when I first worked for the Civil Service, we had hard loo roll there, too, with “Government Property” printed on every sheet. Presumably they wanted it back when we'd finished using it??:rotfl:
Changing the subject completely, well done to your DGD:beer: – fwiw, I never managed to learn French – never could get my head round the pronunciation. I did better with German, though not very much better.

Molly sweetie, don't let the “what's happened to the OS board” thread upset you; I'm deliberately not reading it. The last time I looked, there was still free speech in this country, and if they don't like our chat here, they don't have to read it; you stay here, with your friends, mate.:o

Redruby Ted sends a friendly tail-wag to your dog and your mum's dog. He's a Border Terrier.:o

    And on to today's thread.....

BB that “wee bit of cooking” site looks good – I've bookmarked it for later perusal.

Glitterkitty yah boo and raspberries to former tenants who left the place dirty:mad: – every time I've moved house, I've always gone round with the vacuum after all the furniture was loaded on the lorry, and cleaned all the surfaces and the bathroom and sink, so that it was nice for the new people to move in. Good idea about using the DW for storage though if you're not going to use it for actual DW-ing.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Just back from blackberrying, walked along my usual 2mile jogging route, and have just weighed my berries - 500g :D very happy with that! I could have got more but I had a vest and cropped jeans on and didn't fancy the scratched arms/legs look! Just need to decide what to make with them now.

Now going to sit out in the garden and have lunch

    Afternoon All
Got up and went for a swim this morning, 40 lengths so getting better. Met parents and pupil from my former school at the baths and they are not happy with the place, seems like I got out at the right time. The wee lad (6) kept asking when I was coming back!

Ironing done, no washing to do today (it's very gloomy anyway), made fajitas for tomorrow's tea and generally tidied up. Just cleared all the gutters after the repairs/painter and probably just in time, they were choked.

LO sausage casserole for me for tea before work at 6 and DD will be having a baked pot. We were naughty and had bacon rolls for breakfast.

FB - Well done on the berries, just put me in mind for a crumble and I was going to suggest storage for Glitterkitty's DW, seems a shame to waste the space. Enjoy Steps, I have seen them a couple of times when I had to take my DD (did enjoy it though!).

Molly - You stay here with your pals!

    Take care. XX
