How do i get a tannoy announcement on a plane?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knows how i can get an announcement made on a virgin flight. My best friend is flying to get married with her partner and i would love to have a special good luck message read out for them. I will be flying with them so do you think i should give the air crew i note without my friend seeing or should i try another way? Also has anyone tried the personalised gifts that virgin do?

Thanks

Just beware, your friend (or the partner) may NOT want it blasted around the aircraft.

Speak to one of the cabin crew when you're getting on the flight. I'm sure they'd be happy to.
  • Just ask the purser during boarding or during the flight, never seen the personalised gifts so can't advise.

My dad did this for us nearly 30 years ago, we were gobsmacked when we were then invited to see the captain in the cockpit - not allowed now of course.
I have no idea how he did it although he did used to work for british airways (can't remember who we flew with though).
Why not have a word with your travel agent, or maybe phone the airlines customer service.
btw your friends might prefer it on the way back after the deed is done to avoid bad luck.

Did this on a BA flight - typed out the message first (so they got names right etc) and just handed to air hostess when getting on plane and asked her if she could arrange to be read out.

I find, standing up during landing normally does the trick.

  • Yes, that would really make my day on a flight, personal anouncements over the tannoy, if everyone did it it would be continous.

It's only done for special occasions... And then only for those who want it done. This has been pretty common knowledge for years now yet I think I've heard 1 announcement across all 35 odd flights I've taken! I don't think there is any need to panic just now.

I ordered a bottle of champagne, and paid for it 4 weeks in advance for friends travelling on honeymoon, luckily I told them because nothing appeared and it took 6 weeks to get the money back, their administration is a shambles, so I would never do it again. You are more likely to get an announcement on a flight from Gatwick than Heathrow where they may turn their noses up at the suggestion, but my recent experiences with Virgin suggest that may do this as a matter of course anyway!
  • You can ask the boarding crew to do that for you I never used virgin for personalised gifts but I did used megasool.co.uk they have nice stuff
