with my poly cotton ones I fold them when they are still damp and then place on the radiator to 'iron'!!!
I find that i really have to iron my 100% cotton ones, but fold them while still damp. This makes them a much smaller size to deal with and teh ironing dries them off. I also ahve a lovely laundry cupboard that has hte hot water tank in it so that helps if they are still ever so slightly damp
I have one brilliant set for the spare room that don't ever crease so I don't bother ironing them at all - why i don't have them in every room i'm not sure!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Sorry but I may set lots of things rolling here!!
Like C-C I have now got a generator iron, and very impressed as an Ironer I am not. There are some around at under £50 and if as some of them come with a 2 year guarantee then it can't be bad. Look round for clearance lines, Makro or T J Hughes.
In the UK I have seperate washer and dryer (yes guilty as charged!) and use some ball in there, and have no creasing problems at all.
In Spain I have a washer/drier which I use infrequently if we do get a bad spell or need to dry quickly when coming home. The creasing from this is bad, so I am now looking for balls for out there (These were some around £3.99 I think) and I will also try to half load routine.
Ironing on the bed is also another option, better though if you have an iron which goes cordless. I don't have a bannister.

LMAO!!:rotfl:
Have you tried folding them wet and drying them on a radiator? This is what I do ,its better than the dryer when its raining because the dryer gets too hot and sort of irons in the creases. The best way is outside on the line ..hung nice and taught so they dry smooth.:DJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

I hate ironing, but love ironed bed linen.
Since we moved into the SH complex we are not able to dry washing outside. We have industrial washers and dyers in the laundry room. I find that polo type tee shirts, if I fold them straight away as they come out of the dryer, do not need ironing and I find that works with a lot of things. Shirts I take out of the washer, hang on hangers and then iron, jumpers hang until they are dry, don't need ironing trousers I do not put into the dryer but fold them with the creases in the legs and hang them over the rad airers, when they are dry they go on trouser hangers and put away, no ironing needed. I do have to iron OH's cords, but do them damp on the wrong side. I can get away with his bowls trousers, by hanging them over the rails. Trackies which OH wears in the house, folded and put away no ironing.
Sheets and pillow cases, quilt covers etc I dry to ironing dry, they are still damp, iron them straight away.....I fold the quilt cover in half and then half again, and iron both side, re fold and iron the other sides, then hang over the rad airers I have hanging on the radiators. The sheets I fold the same way iron and over the rails, same with the pillow cases....we have 8 we have 4 pillows each, but only sleep on 2. One thing that does drive me nuts is ironing the frilled edges on the quilt covers...............
I washed my bed linen this mornng and ironed it just now, its on the airers in an hour or so I will put it in the airing cupboard till tomorrow and then it goes away.
I have been seriously looking at the steamer irons, I have a really good tefal iron just now, it has heavy steam and I can shoot steam holding the iron vertical as well as onto the fabric under the iron. It had been over £100 when new, I bought it when Alders closed down for £28............brilliant iron................you may find if you are ironing 100% cotton that spray starch helps, it crisps the cotton up and smells gorgeous when you iron it..........the creases melt away.....
I had a lace tablecloth that had been put away un-ironed by mistake, normally I would have sprinkled it with water and rolled it up to iron later, I sprayed it with the spray starch and it ironed beautifully, no probs...........
I think the trick is not to use too fast a spin cycle. Both the washers and dryers are Miele. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
I know its an expense you don't want but I have an ironing press (purchased quite cheaply from ebay) and its fantastic! I can do up to four layers of fabric at once and its leaves sheets and duvets looking fantastic. We discussed them here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=742857&highlight=press
I also made up some lavender linen spray and now I actually enjoy ironing the bedding as its all nice and neat and smells gorge!
Anyway hopefully Larmy will see this thread, she's the ironing expert0 -
