the idea of a steam generator iron sounds good, i am always sceptical about these gadgets as everything that i buy never lives up to its promises, i was looking at the LG steam direct drive washing machine which promises to virtually eliminate ironing but at £800 it can wait until my washer drier dies through natrual causes.
    Thanks again for your input.

I always use tefal generator irons. My last one cost just a little over £100 and its still going 3yrs on! But then I do a lot of ironing (for others also), so its been a good investment for me! Shop around - Im sure there are cheaper models out there!

  • I noticed the same problem when I got a washer dryer. The spin speed is VERY fast and the dryer just sets the creases in. I try not to use the dryer too much, save the electricity and the planet. I always iron pillow cases as I cant bear to put my face on one that is not perfectly smooth. But not duvet covers. Do what I did and get an eiderdown, keeps me warm and covers up the creases till they go away on thier own.

Life is too short to be ironing duvet covers :)

    Agree absolutely!

Since I've moved to Spain I don't even have an iron (or a tumble dryer, come to that).

Dry them outside or on a clothes horse, stick them on the bed and after a night's sleep any creases will come out.

  • OMG - Do you have to iron them:rotfl:

I just tumble mine, and they come out just fine:D Well that's what I tell myself:A

I'd rather stick biros in my eyes than iron something that doesn't NEED to be ironed. One night on the bed and they are the same anyway, 3 sets of bedlinen every week, plus extras if DS wets bed, no thanks!

I do have a cheat button on my drier which also comes in handy, it practially irons most things in there, granted DP said buy whichever you want and I'll pay for it so I picked the most expensive one there was and he calls it 'Starship Enterprise' has sooooo many buttons :rotfl: Washing machine also has easy iron setting, same reason he said buy whichever I wanted, so sorted :D
One day I might be more organised...........

My tumble drier has lots of settings i.e. cupboard dry, iron dry, extra dry etc and just set for iron dry and its sorted. I have had my new LG washing machine for 3 days - its magic - 30 minute wash at 30c does for most things and each programme can have a different spin speed - 400 up to 1400 - you just choose it when you put on the programme - its not the steam one but seems so far to be just great and very green too!. I love ironed sheets on my bed and if I win the lottery will have a wee lady to do it for me every day!!! I also use a steam generator - they are the best!
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

  • There's nothing like freshly washed and ironed sheets :)

... and shirts, and knickers, and tea towels. Ironed duvet covers are also FAR easier to put on than crumpled ones..... truly!
    Is it home time yet?

ironed duvet covers??? cannot even begin to imagine attempting one
I had a super-king sized bed at one time, imagine the tangle I'd get in trying one of those covers :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

never iron anything unless I absolutely have to, usually fewer than a dozen items a year
I use the easy iron option on my Bosch washing machine, & in good weather clips from Lakeland for attaching coathangers with shirts & tops on to the washing line

afaik, ironing towels makes them less absorbent (flattens the pile) so would be counter productive (my excuse anyway & I'm sticking to it ;))

I used to have a minimum of 16 shirts a week, husband at work & 2 kids at school, very glad those days are over :)
  • Ironing duvet covers? Loooooong time ago I did, I now iron for births, marriages and
deaths. Possibly for a special occasion but otherwise I can't face it.

    :)
  • The easiest way as mentioned above is to iron them when they are damp. I fold them in half, a quick whizz with the iron, and then hang over the bannister. Although they don't look perfect when you first iron them, any remaining wrinkles drop out when you hang 'em. By time they are on the bed they look and feel great!
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before
