Hello everyone,
I have read lots of good tips on this board so thankyou, now i wonder if you can help me, i know that this is not strictly old style but i think that someone on this board may have some tips.
Ironing duvet covers is the bane of my life, i like them to look nice but i take them out of the tumble drier and spend ages ironing them and they still look awful, it is so depressing, i have tried leaving them damp and drying them outside all to no avail, i have had non iron, polyester, 100% cotton, and now eyptian cotton but still cannot get a good result, i have a washer drier and wondered if that is the problem, maybe it leaves things all creased more than a regular washing machine, i do not really want to buy a new machine unless i have to so come on, give us your ironing tips, all will be gratefully recieved!!!

Not sure about ironing after they have come out of a tumble drier.
Is there any chance you can hang them outside on the line to dry? They will smell nice and be alot easier to iron.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

If you have a washer/dryer, try taking some things out before drying and as such dry a load in 2 lots.
For my superkingsize covers, I fold them lengthways in half, then in half again lengthways, so it is long and thin.
I iron one side and turn over to do other side.
Then open out and re-fold length ways (putting ironed sides together) and then iron both sides.
I then put it over a radiator to air off.
All my bedding is 100% cotton.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Hi berkshire lass,
As Rikki says they will be easier to iron if you let them dry naturally. I got fed up with faffing about with the duvet covers on the ironing board and now I use the bed as my ironing board when I'm doing the duvet covers.
I know it's not exactly the same thing, but this older thread may help:
Help please with ironing sheets

Ive been using a generator steam iron for a few years now, and Ive never had a problem with ironing duvets, jeans or curtains. Send them to me - I'll do em for you.
Try and get your iron as hot as the material will allow it, and use a spary water bottle, squirt the duvet, and use the heat from the iron to generate more steam! I too use my tumble dryer to dry them! Obviously the line in the warmer weather!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Personally I hate ironing but my idea of sheer luxury is sliding in to a freshly made bed with ironed sheets. So I iron my bedding but no one elses If you can take the sheets out while still really damp. Iron them then as it will be easy, and then hang them to finish drying.Target 1: Pay off Alders by July 2007(done), Target 2: Clear overdraft by end of 2007

Thankyou for all of your replies, i will try to dry smaller amounts at each time and give that a go, i do try to dry outside but in the winter this is not always possible, the idea of a steam generator iron sounds good, i am always sceptical about these gadgets as everything that i buy never lives up to its promises, i was looking at the LG steam direct drive washing machine which promises to virtually eliminate ironing but at £800 it can wait until my washer drier dies through natrual causes.
Thanks again for your input.

OMG! you mean you should iron duvet covers??? lol
Never have i ironed one and i never will - it's bad enough getting the duvets back in them without ironing them aswell.0 -
Ironing them when they're not quite dry is the answer - if you leave them in the tumble dryer till they're completely dry the wrinkes are already sort of ironed in. I usually put mine over a radiator for a while to dry a bit, then iron them, then put them (folded) back over the radiator to finish off drying.
There's nothing like freshly washed and ironed sheets0
