I want to cut a wooden blind (too wide!)

Daughter purchased a wooden venetian blind last summer, but we've only just got round to decorating her room, and - horror of horrors! - the blind is too wide.

Does anyone know of a simple way of trimming the excess, or if there is somewhere that you can take it to be done?

Thanks in advance!

I think I've seen a tool for cutting blinds but sorry can't remember where, might be worth looking in B&Q or similar though

Good saw and a careful hand....or do you know anyone with a Chop saw?

If not, I'm sure a local timber merchant would do it for a small fee.

I have just had the same problem last week and I found that a good pair of garden snips worked fine for me, the ones with the ratchet are the one's that I usedand it gave a very clean edge. hope this helps :j

ps it worked fine on my plastic one as well which i did after the wooden ones

I had 3 of these from Ikea for our front room. I taped the whole thing together tightly and ran the jigsaw accross them with a steady hand. I guess a handsaw might have been safer though, when /i tried this with the metal ones I got a bit of vibration, buckling some of the slats.

Gosh, you are all clever - my OH took our blind apart and painstakingly cut each slat!! Was a perfect finish, though, bless him :D

Just cut 3 wooden blinds in the last week for my sister. I used those scissors that are advertised as being able to cut through tin cans etc. Done a nice clean finish but a couple of slats you could feel the resistance as though the wood was harder and it took a bit more effort. Done all of them in the end though and was pleased with result apart from having 2 blisters on my hand where the scissors had been pressing!! There are some interesting ideas listed here which i may have a go at if needed in the future because although i got a good finish it took ages.

Thanks for all the responses ... I'll show them to my OH and see which method he prefers (tee hee hee!!!).

When completed, I'll let you know how it went.

    Thanks again!

I know I'm a bit late here, but others may benefit.

    We bought ours from B & Q.

    Method...

G-clamp 7 slats at a time (and as close as possible to cut line to stop vibration) and cut through them with a (very fine bladed) junior hacksaw.

Then just smooth off the burr with one of those fine grit sanding sponges.

    Leaves a perfect finish.

Just to say thanks to everyone!!!

Hubby used a couple of clamps (2.49 each from NETTO) and sawed the ends off. Perfect job!

Talking of Wooden blinds - does anyone know where I can get Dark Wooden blinds in 100cm and 150cm widths ready made. Surely my windows aren't that non-standard. Everywhere I have looked its either 90cm, 120cm or 180cm.
