Ok BB support have just called me back and now want me to find another charger to try and charge the playbook before they will go any further and I have to try and charge it for 6-8 hrs.

Ok this maybe the last step in the process but it is rather weak to expect a customer to run around and find another charger to borrow or is this a sly way of getting you to buy a charger, lol

Ayway I'm now on the hunt for a charger from other PB owners and hopefully it will all be resolved next week.

I would tell them to send you one if that's what they want to do. Expecting you to find/buy one isn't acceptable - I would push it back to them to repair/provide solution.

BlackBerry should do a swap out with you, its only usually a couple of days as they tend to send you another PB out as soon as your faulty one arrives in their EU repair unit rather than repair yours.

Should be a no cost repair to you.
In my (limited) experience the repaired unit comes back with the same serial number, so I'd suspect it's repaired rather than replaced.

If you don't want to try this (and I think you said you'd already tried that?), just say you already have...

When my PB went wrong, it didn't want to charge I only had days left until it was 1 yr old.

Called the 0800 number, I was on the phone for an hour trying charging via the wall socket and also trying to connect the playbook to the computer. When all that failed they gave a RMA number and sent packaging to me.

I called them up on a tuesday, the empty packet arrived on the wednesday morning, via FedEx, the return pickup was arranged via FedEx for that afternoon, the unit arrived in the repair dept in Germany on thursday and a replacement unit, new serial number etc, was sent back to me same day, with me getting it back on the friday morning again via FedEx

All this was tracked via the website detailing what was going on along with the FedEx tracking numbers and followed up by emails and phone calls, so my advise is try the steps they suggest but if you do have to return the turnaround can be very quick.
Power is good, but then you get the bill....

The process they perform now has recently changed.

My faulty PB was replaced within 2 days too - the blackberry service is amazingly fast. I got a new one back instead of a repair - my fault was a dodgy wifi chip though.

Ok... have again spent time on the phone to BB.... thankfully, they call you back. I told them I couldn't find a charger and had no intentions of buying one. They have now decided to take the playbook back and have now issued a RMA. So hopefully as some of you have mentioned it will all be resolved in a few days.

Well the playbook has been picked up by fedex and is now on a trip to Germany. Funny thing is that when I showed the fedex guy the "notice of materials" info sheet, he commented when he seen that it had a RIM logo. He said that in the last few months he has picked up dozens of them.

So this is not a fault......mmmmm

    Anyway will await the outcome.

  • My daughter's playbook arrived back today without being repaired as I refused to pay as it is only 6 months old. The Fedex person also told me that they have dealt with lots of Blackberry tablets recently so there is definitely something going on. They have emailed me 2 photos - one of a "good" charger port and one of my daughter's charger port but they both look completely different as regards size and shape. I am still arguing it out with them but I refuse to pay £95 to have it repaired when it only cost another £100 to buy it in the first place. Will never buy Blackberry again

64GB Playbook is currently £129 in DSG stores, so certainly the repair cost is not worth it...
