Bank accounts for DRO

Options
I've read elsewhere that only Barclays and the Co-Op allow undischarged bankrupts to have an account, but that most banks don't mind a DRO unless you defaulted on a debt to them. Anyone know if that's still the case, and if there are any banks best avoided before a DRO application?

Would it be better to open a new basic account before applying for a DRO, or to wait until it was approved?

I also heard Barclays refuses to give bankrupts a debit card, or access to web and phone banking. So you have to go into the branch during opening hours and withdraw cash over the counter. Is that correct, and does it apply to DRO subjects as well?

    Hi,

I don't think it's the banks 'don't mind' DRO's - it's just that if you don't have debt with your bank then they won't know about your DRO (unless they credit check you in the future).I would suggest that banks view DROs and BR in the same light.
I would open a new account prior to your DRO, and Barclays and COOP are still the suggested banks. I'm not aware that Barclays have withdrawn their cash card -it would be a useless account without one.

Right, so unlike bankruptcy, nobody goes round and tells them? I'm quite surprised they wouldn't already know from a routine credit report check. Don't banks do that regularly for all their customers, so they know what sort of credit cards etc to try pushing?
