Help? Are benefits being capped at 3 children?

Im all for the benefits cap..for those who use it as a long term income rather than trying to get off their behind and find work..not the geniune people who cant work due to illnes or caring etc..though its hard to tell these days
But where would the money go???? We would still pay the same amount if not more tax!
Will it go towards MP expenses??
Totally OT but the law may state £500 with 4 kids is enough to live on a week,,,,I wonder if the person who laid the law has tried this or is on the same wage??
Im all for it if Mr Wannabe Smart DC capped his wage and other MP wages not forgetting banker bonuses..Then we would see a real difference.0 -
-She is a shining example of why a cap is needed, they must have twigged when her new babies arrived surely?[/QUOTE]
Do you mean a contraceptive cap?:rotfl:0 -
have you looked at the price of kids clothes and shoes recently?thats just for starters
but you still fail to explain what would happen to families who suddenly needed benefits as opposed to those who had been on them for some time,or are we going down the route of a 2 teir society again?
Shoes certainly are expensive but evened out over their life not so bad.. I bought our grandson a pair last August that cost £35. He has worn them as his school shoes for the whole year, so less than £1 a week. Clothes can be bought for pennies from the supermarkets; a whole school uniform for primary school children for less than £10.
We help out with the costs for our grandson because his parents are the working poor. No tax credits for them just the mortgage and high commuting costs. From reading these forums their disposable income after housing and travel costs is less than many on benefits who don't even have to get up in the mornings.
No family where no one works should have their income increased if they choose to have more children and certainly not by a ludicrous £60+. No worker gets his wage increased by almost £100 a week if he has another child.0 -

What an excellent post. That is what Some who rely on benefits don't see. The struggles of the "working poor" which is those above ctc rates with a huge amount of less disposable income. We have to decide can we afford our children? Many would love more children but moving to a larger home, selling / buying costs, childcare stop it. The choice is often taken out of the hands of some because we can't afford it.0 -

I have responsibility for my OWN children. Why should I be responsible for anyone elses?
Parents have the responsibility for their children. If you can't support them financially and every other way then don't have them.0 -

Is that right?
The only way that it can be stopped is state intervention - compulsory sterilisation after 3, compulsory abortions, fines/imprisonment of the father, where does it end?
We all have a responsibility towards the welfare of children, no matter how many a woman has.
Really? Great i will take my ctc and cb please? Some help with mortgage too
Oh did you mean we all have responsibility or children where parents don't work and not the children of those who don't claim benefits.
That's not ALL children is it?0 -
Thankyou for your responses. It seems this hasn't been agreed but is one of the proposals on the table.
Interesting to hear people's views on this too. What suprised me most was the intonnation that only people on benefits have large families and that this sort of cap would only affect the unemployed benefit claimants.
Also, I have a set of twins amongst my 4 so no amount of planning to have a certain amount of kids can stop that sort of thing happening!
I feel drawn to explain a little of my circumstances as there are many criticisms of large families and assumptions that my children were conceived as some sort of way to 'up my income'.
I am a lone parent, but not through choice. My husband left me a few years ago. He workss overseas and I've given up trying to get any sort of maintenance out of him. He left me with alot of debt and a huge mortgage. I was only working part time at the time. before he left we only claimed our CB as probably all parents young and old do. I got a full time job and claimed CTC to help me with the costs of childcare which are astronomical btw and certianly a huge barrier to anyone with more than 1 child gaining full time employment - particularly if they are a low earner.
Somehow i have worked through this over the years and worked full time since. have had severalpromotions at work and now earn a reasonable salary at the same time as my chlidcare costs went down. As it stands now I claim CB and am still entitled to some CTC and what I pay in tax is more than I claim back from these benefits.. If benefits are capped at 3 or less I will lose some of this and things are tight with me trying to get on an even keel and start to make a dent in this huge mortagage I've been left with.
I'm always interested in this theory of hundreds of wome having loads of children to get more money. I've only ever heard about these families in the daily mail. Don't know of anyone in 'real life' - probably becuase they're a bit of a tory propoganda drummed up to make the middle classes hate and loathe the most vulnerable rather than pay attention to the richest in society.0 -
We see lots of lone Parents and Couples on I.S with five or more children.
I don't honestly think they have them to get more money, I think they just know they don't have to worry about continuing to having them, as they know there will extra benefit paid for the new born. So they just keep on having them. No worries or stress on how they are going to afford the new addition.
If the benefit cap is £500 across all benefit claimed, then someone who is just on WTC and CTC and HB would be ok, wouldnt they?0 -
Unfortunately certain people that don't want to work and only breed so they can get more money have ruined it for the people that actually need benefits.
Most of the human race is selfish and greedy unfortunately. My daughters are my world0 -
I am currently 4 weeks away from having my 3rd. Totally unplanned and a shock to say the least. However we could not consider a termination and, yes we will be skint, but we have worked out we can live.
I totally agree benefits should be capped, and maybe even at 2.
We both work and between us earn around 26k. No where near well off. However, even afer this one i will go bk to work. People who dont and live off benefits disgust me and they are the reason the country is in such a mess.
People who say they cannot work as they have kids drive me mad. If your child is in school, work them few hours. If they are younger put them in nursery. I appreciate that nursery is expensive, however this is what the childcare element of tax credit is for. I also understand some people have a child with disablilties, again this is what disability and the carer allowance is for. If they are in school. Work a few hours. If you husband/partner is off work, go to work!
My husband works 5 days and i work the 2 days he is off. We never see each other or have family days. But this is how we get by. I wouldnt dream of quitting work. But seeing how much more tax credits we get from one child (£545 per year) to 3 children (roughly £4500- ive not had a renewal til he is born) is it any wonder people carry on having more and more. Something needs to be done to stop it. If you cant afford them, dont have them.
