I have been driving for over 30 years and for the first time ever - I have been asked to provide, not only written proof of NCD but also proof of identity for myself and my wife (copies of driving licences) by my new insurers (One Call) - is this common practice now or is it just my new insurers ?
I thought that NCD was held on a central DB ??

There's never been a central database.
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Isn't it about time that there was ?
It would save a lot of problems ....
  • are they asking for a license specifically or just say we need proof of your and named drivers identy "such" as a driving license?

seems to be increasing common particularly among the cheap end of the market.

Make sure you send copies only and by recorded delivery.

There have been threads on here where documents "haven't been received" than the insurer cancels the policy or helps themselves to an increased premium/admin fee from your bank (or both)

Actually, there are a couple of current threads where the insurer has acknowledged receipt of the document and still purported to cancel policies on the grounds that the document hadn't been received

They require a copy of the paper and both sides of the card licence
I thought that it was illegal to copy driving licences (as it is bank notes) ?

I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to copy bank notes (or driving licences) it depends on why the copy is made.

Here in the UK - It definitely IS illegal to copy bank notes
You can with special permission from the BoE

I stand corrected about bank notes, still sure I'm right about driving licences though

You may well be - I just seem to remember reading something a few years ago - with them being legal docs....

Forgery Act covers copying pretty any sort of document with the intention to deceive by presenting it as real.

Car hire would struggle if copying licences was illegal
