Forgery Act covers copying pretty any sort of document with the intention to deceive by presenting it as real.

Car hire would struggle if copying licences was illegal

That depends on where you are !!!
I know some extremely dodgy car hire companies - that I would never provide my docs for......

It's not illegal to photocopy passports, driving licenses, birth certificates unless for fraudulent ends. Employers, banks and even government agencies often require copies of these documents.

I just changed insurance provider, and it was the first time that I haven't been asked for proof of NCD. I guess that means that Admiral and Direct Line have a mutual information sharing agreement? In any case, it's easy enough to get proof of NCD - it should have been sent when you cancelled your old policy, or if not just write and ask for it.

And send a photocopy of your license, but if ever asked for the original then there's something dodgy going on! Only the DVLA can ask for that.
  • i suppose there needs to be some sort of moderator in relation to regulating fraudulant insurance policies (for people claiming to have no points when they have 9 etc) and this is the insurers doing just that, how good the new type photo card licenses will fair under the scanner will be intersting TBH as their meant to glare back and prevent any info of the card being scanned properly. if they request it provide it, but express that it is for their internal office use only any sharing etc you will deam as a breach of data protection.

I have scanned and emailed my NCD (your old insurance docs state what NCD you have) photo card both front and back and paper part of the licence for Admiral and Principal insurance this year. Seems to be common practice now for a new policy. Nothing to be concerened about.
