    my bestie was uncomfortable with the whole concept, so in the end we all just went out for an afternoon tea together, on the condition there would be no pressies etc, just lovely female company and baby related chat. it was a fab afternoon with tons of cake- -win!

    now i have to say this would be right up my street - afternoon tea with the girls. Your friends could even organise one in a known venue for "posh" afternoon tea, to make it more of a special date?
  • Is it worth going to a spa as I would imagine alot of the facilities would be unsuitable - though I stand to be corrected

    Personally I would go for a meal
    2014 Target;
    To overpay CC by £1,000.
    Overpayment to date : £310

    2nd Purse Challenge:
    £15.88 saved to date
  • I'm reminded of a quote from Sex and the City about having one just so you can get back at all the women who invited you to theirs and forced you to buy them multiple sodding nappy cakes!
  • Thanks everyone for your input! I do appreciate it.

    I've never had any kind of party or celebration apart from when a very young child (probably under 8yrs old), no hen party as not engaged, no wedding as not married etc, so the usual anti-social side of me is thinking 'oh god no, i can't think of anything worse' and the marginally more adventurous side of me thinks when someone offers so kindly to arrange something for me, why turn it down? Whats the worst that could happen?

    Is it really sad that I've got NCT classes at the start of september and am hoping I meet another couple of people to bring along with me?

    I think maybe just a meal, maybe getting our nails done. I couldn't really benefit from a massage etc or go in a jacuzzi, so maybe nails and then straight on to a restaurant? I thought getting our nails down would be nice because then one of my friends could bring her little girl (4) along too

    I like that idea Anon - why not a nail party? bring the kids and all get your nails done!
  • I think as you get older (im 30 not ancient!) its about quality rather than quantity. I had dozens of friends in my teens, but would filter it down to 3 maybe 5 at a push i would call my real true friends...that whole show up at their door at 4am type friend if you needed to!

    We had a baby shower for a girl at my work and just had a lunch and talk, we gave her the collective present from everyone at work and i made some baby boy themed cupcakes. We played a few daft games too, just had a nice natter and laugh

    I think spa/long day out is just putting presure on people to spend cash, just a little buffet at someones house would be nice or lunch out im sure. I guess its a chance for you to have a natter with people before the baby is here, dont worry about numbers/people and things and enjoiy it x
