Water Bill Dispute

in Water bills
I am currently disputing my water bill (Anglian) for the last 6 month period. The cost is more than double the usual amount and this has coincided with the fitting of a new meter. I have now received a letter stating that my account has been passed to the debt recovery department.
As the new meter was fitted part way through the bill period I am unable to verify the last reading on the old meter, and I suspect that there is an error on this reading
Should I pay the bill and continue to dispute or stick to my guns and not pay? Any advice would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.
Unless you water the garden a lot in summer(not likely this summer!) water usage is normally pretty consistent throughout the year.
You should be able to determine the pro-rata consumption for the period before and after the meter was changed, and compare it with previous bills.
If the large increase is for the period before the meter change, you might have a case to challenge the meter reading.
If the consumption is high for the period after the meter was fitted, it might be a faulty meter(old or new one!) or a leak has developed. You can test the latter by turning off stopc0ck and see if meter reading changes.
It is also possible a leak in house has occured - normal culprit is a cistern leaking(quietly) into toilet bowl.
If you are still convinced you have a case, and Anglian won't budge, go to the Consumer Council for Water.0 -
Ask them for the out reading as part of the meter exchange program means that it has to be read when removed ( or if fault they can use the adc ) If they have used the adc they should easily be able to explain what figures they have used etc.
I would think it is more likely that the meter has been misread on removal and that has caused a " clock over"There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.
