Brazil Hair & Beauty, London - via KGB deals

Hi there,
I want to see what you think about a reply to a complaint I sent initially to KGB deals, who then referred me to the salon whom I purchased a haircut/colour deal with: Brazil Hair & Beauty. I would like to point out I have nothing against people not speaking English fluently and residing in Britain but when it comes to a personal service, I feel this is a necessity and wasn't explained anywhere on the deal that this wouldn't be the case.
The deal was to have a hair cut, a special conditioning treatment (not just conditioner) and colour.
My complaint:
"I went to have my hair done on Wednesday 8thAugust. However, this place was disgusting. Have any of your agents actuallybeen here? It's like a doctor's waiting room with mis-match everything andlooks terrible. Not only that, but more disturbingly, my hairdresser didn'tspeak fluent English (something I consider essential for a good haircut).Initially I had a translator to choose my hair colour and they did that. Butwhen it came to cutting my hair, the translator had gone so how on earth couldshe cut my hair properly without understanding what I wanted? Unbelievable. Therefore, I wasn't going to have a bad haircut and be depressed about it forweeks (as this has happened with 2 previous non-fluent English speakers so Iwasn't going to let it happen a third time), so I told them to blow dry my hairand that's it. Reading the voucher I was meant to have some kind of hairtreatment, but that wasn't done either. I really am appalled by the fact youeven have this hairdresser on your books. Like I said, disgusting place andpeople that don't speak English. I appreciate the fact I had my colour done, but no haircut or treatment so I would like half the money back from thevoucher I bought."
Their reply:
"You use the word “disgusting” twice, which would only be appropriate if you had identified some issue relating to hygiene. The fact that the salon offended your aesthetic sense (“like a doctor's waiting room with mis-match everything and looks terrible”) is not our problem and is no reason for a refund. Our KGBdeals clients routinely have their hair conditioned after washing and I think it unlikely that Linda neglected to do this in your case. I understand that you chose not to have your hair cut because of previous bad experiences of having your hair cut by non-fluent English speakers in other salons. The type of cut covered by the voucher is essentially a trim. If you wanted a radical restyle that would, in any case, have cost you extra and yes, under those circumstances you would need your wishes translated in detail. Linda is, as you say, not fluent in English but if you only want fluent English speakers to do your hair, perhaps you should avoid buying vouchers for salons with names like Brazil Hair & Beauty. You have no complaints, it seems, about the colouring of your hair (“I appreciate the fact I had my colour done”) and you chose not to have it cut, so you had your colour done and a blow dry for £39, which I’d say was a good deal. I guess some people are very easily “appalled”!
Regards,
James"
I particularly find it amusing that I shouldn't go to a salon with the name Brazil in it as that indiciates that no English speakers work there! Just like the way the Paris Hair Salon obviously speaks French, and like Cafe Brazil in Chelsea must only speak Brazilian too!

First and foremost I dont like "James" response, not very CS orientated. However I am inclined to agree with him although he could have put it far better.
How the salon looks has nothing to do with the deal you purchased and I agree just because it was styled like a doctors waiting room or not aesthetically pleasing is immaterial and certainly not disgusting as this is subjective based on other peoples opinions.
Just because you have had bad experiences with previous stylists that do not speak fluent english this has nothing to do with them as a stylist, you have no idea what the stylists accreditations are, where they have trained and how long they have been in the business etc. Yes it might be difficult to convey what you wanted but that does not mean they are poor in their workmanship and it is you here who elected not to have the trim. As James says the deal was for a trim, therefore I cannot see any real need to engage as a trim is pretty obvious, you are going to have the same style but loose an inch or two.
You asked them to blow dry your hair and thats it. Well they seemed to translate that well enough.
What you should have done here is if you didnt like it or had concerns you should have spoke up at the time. Maybe the reason you didnt is for the same reason I am thinking. Finally you should have took no service from them and attempt to seek a refund from KGB0 -
I completely agree with KGB's viewpoint on this, and quite like the blunt style of response! One of the best cuts I have ever had was from a non English speaker, so you really should not judge someone on that standard.0

Ok people... I can't post a link as I'm new but this is taken from their offer and then you might see where the difference is!
Wasn't just stated as a trim but:
*Plus a cut, blow dry and treatment
*Package tailored to individual hair types
Also in respect to the condition of the salon, they state on their voucher:
"Treat yourself to a glamorous hair treatment package with today's A-lister kgbdeal!" - when you are confronted with a dump and not a stylish glamourous salon, your expectation drops somewhat.
The manager spoke some English and hence why I got a blow-dry.
Also, I tried to show this hairdresser a photo and she seemed half interested as you see I go in with hair tied back so don't look remotely like how I do when it's down. Then when she was about to start doing something, grabbed the wrong part of my hair to where my fringe was and that's where I stopped this haircut.0 -

yes that link is right, i can't post as I'm new...
I guess I just have high standards and have never been let down by Groupon deals but had 2 disasters with KGB, which leads me to believe they don't visit places. I am never buying from KGB again! Plus I find it shocking that as a hairdresser you don't speak fluent english in England as how can you convey what you want. This is more my point. The shabby surroundings just added to it!0 -
To be honest i would have researched them first seeing as they are named in the ad. Maybe something to do for the future.
Their website doesnt fill me with confidence as it is ver basic and no photos of the salon

Then there is this

Hiya!
Yes - that would have been an idea to go to their site as equally as poor as their inside of their salon. Something to look out for in the future - especially if no photos of their salon - believe me it is not something they'd want to advertise!
Then as far as I was aware, I didn't have any special treatments which took any amount of time as just shampoo and conditioner as went on and came off like they do.0 -
Yeah the blog I linked to didnt paint it in a nice picture, sounds like it is placed in one of those market type stalls areas. I know Charing Cross Well and cannot think where it is.
Maybe just chalk this upto experience. Dont think you should refrain from KGB in it's totallity because there is the odd gem that comes up but most of their deals are seriously overinflated and they and groupon have been pulled up on it, KGB more so. I believe there are pretty close to the edge at the moment based on what I have read.
Suppose just a little research is needed before hand and maybe a search of the company concerned and the reviews added into the the search0
