OS Daily Thread Friday 24th August

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 24th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you goto bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Wet & overcast here this morning, it's not really light yet.
We went to Salisbury/Amesbury/Stonehenge on Wednesday & had a lovely time, we saw the cathedral, followed the walking tour & ate at a place called Qudos as we wanted to try out their steak stones. http://www.steakonthestone.co.uk/
Hubby had duck breast & I had haloumi skewers.
Yesterday DD took her Grandma to the hospital for the prognosis on Grandma's breast cancer, it is terminal, she was offered & has refused surgery. Suggested timescales with drug therapy seem to be between 6mths to 2 years but Grandma is 84 & as she said herself 'Well something's got to get me'. I sent her some freesias as they are her favourite flowers & she was delighted with them, but in doing so I seem to have upset the ex yet again as he had been 'to busy' to send her any flowers!
Plans for today include a trip to Oxford on the train & a trip on the tour bus, I think we will get very wet, lol.
OS plans for today include sweeping & mopping the downstairs floors.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Everyone is still in bed so I have grabbed a coffee and am going to have half an hour on the computer, then I will have a shower when DH gets up.

    Chilly here this morning.

I'm the only one up at the moment. Iv been up about an hour and I'm on my second coffee now.
Friday today, I use to love Fridays but that just don;t seem as good now that I don't have a job. Never mind.

My wife is not at work today but she and the Girls are all booked into have there hair done this afternoon. I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing today but the chickens could do with cleaning out so I might get that done today.

Lunch for the four of us will be sandwich's and salad.

    Have a great day all:j:j

Morning all ((hugs)) Bb hh halibut and everyone :-( headlight I hope you can find some new ways of enjoying fridays. I find my phone's corrections of halight quite amusing :D

I'm on the train to work admiring the beautiful countryside before I hit London.14 hours a day of air con and gross tube air are taking their toll on my hair and skin so I will add whipping up some refreshing and moisturizing spray to this weekend's to do list. Lunch today is all the leftovers of food I've brought to work this week. I still can't believe how many people buy their lunch, breakfast and coffees there! Must spend more in a day than I do in a week:eek:

    Have a good Friday all!

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Cloudy, dull and overcast here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early. .

Dinner last night was cheese and ham kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk and mushroom omlette and salad for me. Need to organise something for tonight later.

Have the normal list of chores to do so will be heading to the bank shortly, then on to the SM to do food shopping, then once home I'll continue with the mahoosive pile of ironing, got quite a bit done yesterday so will continue with it later. Will be doing a menu so next week feels a bit more organised, extra day off for the Bank hols too, so only working 1 and a half days next week! Can't believe how quickly this holiday has flown past, boys back to school week after next.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Well, Good morning folk.

At the jolly old PC bright and early today. Well, early anyway. I will only get the church mag finished if I sit at it all day. Yesterday we already had three lots of visitors when a fourth lot were ringing the door bell and the phone went. So one way and another I didn't get as much done as I'd planned.

Don't know what we are eating but there are cold sausages left from yesterday, so probably those with salad for lunch - not much work for me. It's lovely to walk through the house and see everything swept and gleaming. Not so good if you dwell on what lies under the surface. All in good time. Perhaps.;)

Hester: glad you enjoyed your day out. So sorry about your MIL. It's difficult when you get on with ex-in-laws. My experience was similar. My ex's parents wouldn't have anything to do with him after the divorce but came down regularly to stay with me. When my FIL died my MIL asked me to write and tell my ex because she couldn't bring herself to contact him. When she died my ex immediately wrote to ask me the details of her solicitor so he could check out the will! Not surprisingly, he didn't feature in it. He still blames me.

Halight: Know what you mean about Fridays. When I retired my colleagues said, "You won't ever get the Friday Euphoria again." I pointed out that I wouldn't be getting the Sunday Night Depression either.

Anyway, workers enjoy your TGIF feeling. :p The rest of us look forward to having our loving families around us for the weekend. :D

    Morning everyone,

    Hester sorry about DDs grandma.

Halight hope that you find a job soon.

Judi I am a yam-yam too. I grew up in Walsall.

All quiet here this morning. OH has gone to work and all the children are still in bed. Lovely!

Going to spend today sorting paperwork and hopefully meeting a friend for a cup of tea. I have no idea what the children have planned.

Tea tonight will be HM pizza.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Good morning all,
Dull here at the moment but it doesn't feel cold at all.
Wm is on so i will hopefully be able to hang that out. If not it will go on the airer.
Hubby is at work and the girls are still in bed. Bliss :D.
I have more french beans to get ready for the freezer today. We dug up a row of potatoes yesterday. They were laid out on the grass for a few hours before they went in a sack.
I am going to be doing housework today. The woodwork needs a wipe. So i will just go through each room.
Tea tonight is sausages, potato skins fried in a little bit of oil with onion, garlic and bacon pieces with egg and beans. Nice and easy.
HH, hugs to you and you dd.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning everyone

Dull and drizzly here today, and more rain forecast. Working this morning, so littlies with their older brother (20) - what fun they'll have if they're all stuck inside! :D

DH and I had 5ubway for tea last night, as I was home quite late and even later by the time the babies were in bed, so tonight's tea will have to be beans on toast or freezer surprise to make up. Won't be home until about 6.30, so no chance for any OS today, but DH got Sat/Sun/Mon off work - yippee! :j

HH - sad to hear about your MiL, blow the ex - you and DD remembered to do the right thing, sounds like he's feeling guilty he "forgot" about his own mum!

Have a happy Friday all, work or not, hugs and kisses to any who need them.

    A xo

    Morning All,
Cloudy here in Hastings. Didn't water the garden last night as it was supposed to rain and didn't:mad: Weatherman says it will rain later this afternoon.

Had a nice day out yesterday, and a lovely lunch of liver & bacon followed by lemon meringue.:T Had a cheese scone later, and now weigh 11stone 10lb, so another 2lb gone.:T

SIL didn't get either job he went for:o He was a bit gutted, but he's gone for two more. DD has managed to get three more shifts instead.

Got my hairdressers' daughter today, will take her to the swingpark.

Hairy Dieters Gammon steaks for dinner tonight.
