O2 are a bunch of idiots!
Over the past few months I've been getting loads of spam texts,calls about reclaiming PPI ect so,on seeing O2's ad for the new SIM,I called & ordered one,thankfully they sent me two.
Today I swapped them over,informed all who need to know of my new number & then used the Swap SIM thing on their website to do so,then called 02 broadband to get them to remove the old number from my account & then add the new number in its place so I can get my bband discount.
I then got a text saying the 'old' number has been removed,imagine my suprise when I get a call saying the number is dead!
Checked it & yup,it's dead..so called 02 on their 0844 number (and I'd like to get straight thru to a person instead of listening to five minutes of advertising !!!! when I do:mad:) only to be told,yup,it's dead...Apparently it's because it's been sitting in the warehouse for 5 months & 29 days so because I've used it on the sixth month anniversary,it's been disconnected! Apparently...:p (even tho it says on the SIM activate before 06/20130) So I have 4hrs to top it up & it'll come back on within 24 hrs..
Funny how the second SIM they sent me & I've swapped out still works...

It gets worse..they've reactivated the number I wanted rid of & NOT the new phone number!...Am on the phone to them again...0

the " Swap SIM thing" you used is for transferring your account, number and all, to a new SIM. That's the source of your problems. You'll end up back where you started.
If you wanted a new number, you just call O2 with no need for a new SIM. They'll do one number change free if you are receiving nuisance calls.0
