Window salesmen

Im in the process of shopping around for upvc windows.

I have afew appointments booked that came from a window quoting site.

Im posting for a heads up on what to expect, salesmen tactics etc and how to deal with it.

All companies have asked if my partner will be present which makes me suspicious.

im looking for 6 large windows 2 small and want to pay approx £2600 which they already know through the comparison site.

You should get them all to come at the same time, tell them what you want and leave them to fight over the price :)

I'm an ex Everest rep, he'll want you to buy on the night. As far as the salesman is concerned the worse thing you can do is say ..........I'll think about it. So he needs both partners there so that you can't say ..... I'll ask my husband (or wife) when they get home.
But remember the guy is only doing a job, which he may not particularly like, So try not to be nasty to him.

Don't, under any circumstances sign anything while they are there, stick to your guns. Tell them you need to think about it and you are obviously getting other quotes.

We had one who I physically had to manhandle through the door, he called me a few names too. All because I wouldnt sign on the dotted line.

I wonder how long he ket his job after I rang and spoke to his boss next day. I really was ready to call the police to get him out to be honest.
    He was really intimidating.

As an ex rep I'd be interested to know how much in percentage terms you would have been prepared to come down from your starting price to get a sale

His boss probably told him "Well Done", 'cos he kept trying to get the sale right up to the end when lesser salesmen would have given up.

It was 30yrs ago this, but if i remember we had 2 lots of discounts. The first was i think 10% if you spent more than £1500, the second if i remember was 7.5% which was 'a carrot' if you bought on the night.
Any other discounts that were offered had nothing to do with Everest but may be offered by the salesman out of his commission. We were constantly under pressure to get sales so if you needed a sale to get your figures sometimes you'd give part or even the whole of your commission away If you did that you came out of the house with nothing, but at least it got our boss off our backs for another week. The good salesmen hardly gave any of their own commission away, they got the sales without. It was us rubbish reps who weren't pushy enough.

yes Andy i got two of the companies call from using that site.

That site gives a rough quote and then informs local companies that you are interested.

I will be fair and let them have their sales talk but i know what i want and how much i want/should pay for it.

Nothing will be signed on the day until i get a proper quote in writing with T&C's that i can digest at my own leisure.

Am i right in thinking energy ratings arent much difference anyway... before they give me the hard sell on better glass.
I figure anything is an improvement on the ancient double glazing i have

We've just had a quotes for 1 composite front door and 2 upvc back doors £2200 (quote left until tomorrow)..................still think that's steep and that was down from an initial £3800.....

Any ideas on what price we could haggle to?
Life is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:

See that's just what I mean, they treat you as if you are stupid enough to take the first high quote and try to get as much moeny out of you as posssible, and then give you the impression that they are giving you a discount.

Honesty is coming in at the best price possible, and they should have come in at the end price, that's the honest way to do it.

I wouldnt give them the time of day.

Get a couple of quotes from local companies, they will come in at an honest price.
