Well, either the EA or your vendor is either bonkers or corrupt! You can't go any further without a proper survey so I guess you have to wait and see if you get any response to the letter. Meanwhile, make sure your conveyancer isn't doing anything that will cost you any more money. I'd be very inclined to start viewing other houses, because this can only go one of two ways: either the vendor knows nothing about all this and it will quickly be resolved when they get your letter, or this bizarre instruction really has come from them, in which case it's all off.0

BTW if they really won't budge and you decide not to proceed with the purchase, I certainly wouldn't be replying to any further emails or answering phone calls from the EA who's been so rude to you. You know exactly how she's going to react if you tell her you're pulling out, so why bother? Let them figure out for themselves that their flat is no longer 'sold'!0

Bingo!
Plus if the hubby does it then there are no guarantees and no comeback if the problems then come too light.
Also obviously he knows what problems there are and how to try and hide them from a surveyor.
Run away from this property and don't look back.0 -

The vendor has got our letter but we have only heard this through the agent.
They will accept our choice of surveyor but ONLY if the vendor can be present! Is this normal? Why do they want to do this? They want us to rearrange the survey date and time so that they can be there.

we were present when our buyer's surveyor visited.
Normally i wouldn't be worried at all by this.... but given the background, I would either make sure your surveyor clearly understands the situation or make sure you can go along too... and then there can be no question of undue 'influence' (shouldn't happen, but they sound like they may be trying to pull something here)0 -
actually , I would be asking the EA for the reasons behind all this silly behaviour. ie some plain answers to some straight questions...0

Unfortunately we are away next week, which is when they want the survey to happen. I am thinking of asking someone to be there to represent us incase the vendor is trying to influence things.
The fact that they are worried about damage seems odd, the flat is in a poor state or repair and needs complete renovation, and no one lives there.
This really worries me but I am not sure what to do about it.0 -
Speak to your surveyor directly and explain your concerns and ask them to look for specific things e.g dry rot
I would also warn them of the husband just so they are pre armed.
Having said all this I would be walking away before spending any money if they are like this now what on earth are they going to be like when solicitors start asking questions etc0 -
It sounds like the Husband wants to try and influence the surveyor.
The surveyor would have to be very, very stupid to listen to the Husband and avoid reporting on any issues found as this would potentially leave them open to a claim of negligence.0
