we have had a leak in the kitchen, a plumber has been out and said he thinks that there is a leak in the mains water pipe which he thinks needs to be replaced. from outside the house, at the mains point, to the stopcock in the house.
does anyone have any idea on the cost of this kind of work?
thanks.

It will depend on the depth it's at, but mainly on the distance involved, which you don't state. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

its approx 20mtrs. but i have no idea on depth.0 -
you might have to contact your water supply company if it involves their mains connection.
This is what is says on our suppliers site, you may be lucky and they will repair for free..

Dear me - you have two threads running on this one (this and the one in In My Home) which is counterproductive as you will end up with conflicting advice.
However, I'm going to say the same thing as I have on the other one. If you have a water meter adjacent to the company stopcock turn your own internal stopcock right off and watch the meter. If its still going round then you have a leak between the meter and your stopcock. If it isn't then you don't have a leak in your supply pipe.
Check this first before you start spending any money whatsoever.
