Just been put out of business by Ebay

  • Wow-

I had to leave the house for a bit so I've just seen all the replies-
thankyou for all taking the time to try and help.
They were making a large amount from me in fees, as I usually opted for listing upgrades if the item warranted it. They were taking at least £1000 p/month in fees, usually a lot more. Then paypal too...

Anyway, now waiting for a reply from Ebay regarding my appeal.
Word of warning- if you have a Gmail account registered with Ebay- make sure you have registered it as Googlemail, not just Gmail. This is because when you write from your email account it will appear on their screens as from 'yourname@googlemail.com', when your registered address is 'yourname@gmail.com' and therefore not the one linked to your account so they refuse to correspond (as I just found out). It is impossible to change your Ebay registered email account whilst suspended (or so it seems), so you have to tpass security checks before they'll write to you via your email account, dragging out the process.

I have had to explain the above to Ebay and am now waiting for their reply.

I hope they are reasonable about this, as I will have no choice but to 'buy' a friends Ebay and Paypal account, which I really dont want to have to do as it'll surely complicate things with regards to tax.

Thankyou all for your support, am taking in all suggestions with eager ears.

    Regards,

    D&O

I know that banks cannot financially "link" people at the same address so how come ebay are able to?

Hm, well my credit reference showed my dad, my brother and one of my sisters' banking and catalogue-buying activity

Why shouldn't they link relatives if they believe they're financially connected?

I thought CR agencies only linked on adresses not surnames. You sure you aren't all being tied in because of a link to the same address in the past?

sorry, just to clarify, I meant that banks cannot link bad debts to other family members etc. they can't chase them for what is owed unless a joint account etc.

It is annoying having to have your email appear as from ...@googlemail.com instead of ...@gmail.com just because you live in the UK .. but there is a sneaky way round this :D

... go to Settings in gmail, and then Accounts within that. Select "Get mail from other accounts" and add your ...@gmail.com address.

Once the confirmation email arrives, confirm it and then set the @gmail.com address as the default in your settings. Now all your email should appear as from ...@gmail.com rather than from ...@googlemail.com

Yes, that's exactly why there was an association.

Perhaps the subtext is that OP probably lived with his / her son recently?

That seems very likely as he said his son was at college when the original problem occured.

Seems to be a standard case of ebay muppetry.

    Cynical?

Yep maybe but I was thinking they were using the same computer/paypal/bank account.

OP post how exactly you think you and your son were tied in together.
Be very surprised if ebay were collaborating data from the electoral register.
You sure your son only got collared for 3 NPB strikes? Because if your earning ebay a £1000 a month in fees seems strange they'd reject yor business because your son was a non payer.
Ebay are many things but bad businessmen they're not.

If OP and son have been registered with ebay at the same address, the link is obvious.

The problem OP's looking at is 'trading while suspended'. Obviously it wasn't OP that was suspended, but ebay go with the 'guilty until proven innocent' thing when it comes to this kind of offence.
