Hi,

I am selling knitting patterns on Ebay, but they wont let me sell digital downloads. I have just got a simple business site where I would like to set up link where people can download ten copies of patterns at a time for a reduced amount.

So far all my images are jpegs. What I am finding extremely hard to get my head around is how to converts a series of single jpegs into a downloadable file.

At first I thought I needed Winzip, but I dont have a version of this and really struggle with zipped files. I am trying to work that out at the moment, I just cant seem to open or convert them. In any case to buy winzip is expensive. I have tried 7 zip with no success either!
I then realised I could convert files to PDF which might be easier for people, but now I am having difficulty with that!

I have downloaded Acrobat but I cant seem to combine the files and convert them. When I try I end up with a screen which says convert to PDF online, and then I have to buy the ability to convert to PDF.

I was told I should convert to Word first, but cant work out how to convert a jpeg to Word!!!

I have Vista. Any simple instructions to help me get from single jpegs to a downloadable PDF would be very gratefully appreciated!!

Thank you so much. I know its just a question of knowing how to do it...I am sure its easy when you know how :(

  • Use bullzip printer
  • I have absolutely no idea what that is?
The central problem seems to be saving to word. When I copy I get an icon and it goes straight to windows photogallery. I cant change that to PDF. I had a problem a while back when everything was saving to PDF! Its something to do with my settings..........

    Thanks

    Hi

    Try cutepdf.

    http://www.cutepdf.com/

Once you've installed it you open up the jpg and click on print and then choose Cutepdf as the printer. This opens up a box where you give the pdf a name, choose the directory where you want to save it and then it saves as a PDF.

Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.

Assuming that's a question about PDFEscape, go to web page, select big orange button "Edit Your PDF Now," then select "Create New PDF Document," select "Page Size = A4" and "Create." Click "Image" in top left menu bar, then browse to where the images you want are stored on your PC (My Pictures?), upload into PDF and save. Done.

I find it hard to understand why your knitting patterns are in the form of jpegs. This may be a case of "If I wanted to get to xyz, I wouldn't start from here...". If so, finding ways of converting jpegs into pdfs may not be the best route. In my (limited) experience, knitting patterns are mainly text, possibly with illustrations or photographs, in which case you should be authoring the material using MS Word or LibreOffice Writer or similar. Writer will allow you to save the document directly as a pdf, other software may need a pdf driver (such as those mentioned in previous answers) to achieve the same result.

Jpegs do not contain editable text, though they may contain an image of text in the same way that you can take a photograph of a page of a book. Jpeg is a format that is mainly used for photographs and other graphics. So if you want to get the text into a Word/Writer document, you start with the text from which the jpeg was created, not with the jpeg itself.

Is it possible to give us a link to a specimen document or image?

As above-if you convert the textual part of the document (or indeed the whole document) into a JPEG first, the quality will be greatly reduced. Converting it again to a PDF will not resurrect the lost quality.
You need to create the PDF straight from your word processing or page make up application-what is it?
Your image files should ideally be TIFF's of at least 300dpi.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Install Cute pdf (it is the easiest simplest pdf creator I have found, and I have tried lots). It becomes a new printer for you.

In Word, click on Insert / picture and browse to your first jpg, select it and click open. You are now back in word with your picture there. Re-size it if necessary.

Save the word document with an appropriate name.

Press the enter key a couple of time to move down the page.

Repeat until all pictures added and any typing added.

    Save the word document.

Print the word document to the new Cute pdf printer. It asks you where you want to save your file so choose an appropriate directory and file name.

    That's it.

As a bonus, you now have the ability to print anything to pdf - web pages, spreadsheets, jpgs, anything that you could previously print. Often it is useful to print to the pdf, spot that the item prints with one line on the second page (internet is a regular culprit) then only print from the pdf what you actually want to.
BTW, I like the free for personal use PDF-Xchange viewer from tracker software for viewing pdfs. It is far faster than Adobe's offering.
I suggest you get the software from download.cnet.com as it virus checks all software on its site.
