Which provider? New home

I am moving house and looking for a broadband provider, I don't really need line rental, and I believe the property already has a phone line. I have done an exchange search on samknows, the LLU operators present are AOL, O2/Be, C&W, Sky/Easynet, Talk Talk, Tiscali and Tiscali Tv, and Cable braodband Virgin Media. I have no idea who to go with and even then what package. Can I only go with the LLU providers, or is this just the best option? I was told by O2 and Orange the maximum speed in my area would be 8mb.

You can't have any ADSL broadband service without an active landline, which requires that you pay line rental. How do you think the broadband signal will get to the property otherwise?
The obvious LLU options for your exchange are Sky and 02.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Is it better to go with an LLU provider such as Sky or O2 then or a cable provider such as Virgin Media?0

There is no 'better', it depends what services you need/want.
If you want an unlimited service then something like Sky LLU is ideal, but if you are a light user then something like Plusnet Value at £6.49 is better value.
Generally speaking, the LLU options are cheaper, and provide more bandwidth. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If you want a service with terrible customer service where you cannot contact them by email, only by phone over the most crackly line they can provide to a distant non-English speaking call centre where they put you on hold for 10mins at a time, then you can't beat Virgin Media.I am the Cat who walks alone0
