Do you need one no... Is it useful yes.
I am typing this on the iPad at the airport.
I use it for surfing, iBooks, email, peresntations( saves me carting the laptop around) note taking .. Rarely travel with laptop now.
Printing is annoying.. I either save the file to Dropbox and print from another machine, or email it to myself and print again from another computer..
Haven't tried the printing apps.
I would miss it if it broke, but is it essential....no
I didn't bother with the 3G, just tether into the phone when travelling.0 -
That seems to be a contradiction in terms
How so?

If you have to ask then "no" you don't need one.
Regarding printing, I have a Brother laser printer and there is a useful app from Brother that allows me to print from the iPad and Pages.0 -

Youve' just described how I feel about the iPad!! I've decided to leave it as I'm saving for a holiday so that money is better spent elsewhere.0 -
Tablets have some fun value, but when you see people buying keyboards to go with their tablets, you have to wonder if they aren't a bit pony for typing on. In fact a forum post as long as the one you did above is quite a painful thing to do without a keyboard.
No it isn't. I can type just fine on an iPad, and I can do so without click-click-clicking; it's perfectly silent, which for me/us is an advantage.
Vendor lock-in - Apple stuff tries very hard to lock you into their ecosystem, which means itunes, icloud etc when there are better and cheaper alternative options.
You don't HAVE to use iCloud. I don't. I don't store music on it, so it rarely needs connecting to iTunes. I think I connected it once when I got it, and once for a software update.
They look stupid when you use the camera function. There are few more idiotic sights than a tourist blocking a pavement to use a tablet as an oversized clumsy and distinctly poor camera
Don't care, because the camera only gets used for casual work. I have a real camera for real photography. The iPad is a convenience camera for when I want to quickly snap and send a pic to someone. Far easier to take pic on iPad and email it from within the Pad, than take it on camera, go find the connecting lead, connect camera to PC, copy/move picture, then attach to e-mail.
They do not play DVD's
Don't care - I've got a proper Home Theatre setup for that
Tablets are a bit better, but you still need a bag
A bag isn't required, a Case maybe....0 -

See? I am wrong in every respect - 2 people have said so in 2 different colours - and one in ALL CAPS! Buy two iPads, the 64TB versions with hummingbird batteries!0

Options are IPAD 2 for £329, a refurb NEW IPAD £359 or a shiny new NEW IPAD for £392 (get a miserly 2% discount from my work on ipads)
Which one should i go for? Or should i just make do with laptop?
Have you considered an Android tablet? I've had great experiences with my Samsung Galaxy Tab (the nine inch model), and they're generally cheaper, to boot.
I've used iOS in the form of an iPhone, and I'd really say the Android experience isn't any lesser. In fact, I think the Android design is a lot better joined up (though I am using a 3GS - the Apple experience may have been refined since then.0 -

Cost me £100 or so in depreciation to be able to write that........0 -
