Welcome Loans UK - witholding refund

I spoke at length with my banks fraud team and although they encountered this problem often theres nothing they can do to recover the money as you gave them your details willingly.
I know the websites are deceptive and quite often the fees are far from obvious but im afraid your on your own, for at least 8 weeks after you send an official complaint to welcomeloans.
After that period has passed then the FOS can get involved but im afraid theres plenty of storys about of welcomeloans ignoring the FOS rulings and then its off to the courts to get your money back...This is a lengthy process and for now its best to accept its gone and focus on fighting these "brokers":beer:0 -
No, as the OP will have given Welcome Loans their card details voluntarily. This isn't fraud.
sorry, I think we were talking about different examples, I was referring to the poster who hadn't heard of them until companies started ringing them and then Welcome Loans took £70 from their bank. If, as they state, they didn't give them the details then the bank would deal with it.
ETA - we were talking about the same post, the poster stated that they had no previous dealing with WL and had not given over his card details.0 -

If you honestly believe the poster didn't give her bank details out once welcome used the phrase"we need to indentify you" then it's up to you.0 -

To be fair, they said they didn't and I have no reason to disbelieve that, unless MSE now works on the basis that all posters are liars or complete idiots who give out bank/card details without realising?
The poster said he was going to get in touch with his bank as he has no idea how the company got his details, Meer then replied to say that the bank couldn't do anything, I then stated that they could if they hadn't given their details out and gave an example of a similar situation happening to me...........seems perfectly reasonable to me.0 -
My reply was aimed at the original OP who DID give their details to WelcomeLoans.0

Apologies in that case Meer, it was because you quoted the post I am referring to that I assumed you were aiming it at them

Apologies again, it was actually Redsaxon that replied to thr posters post. double :huh:0 -
I was attracted to it as I have some money coming but needed a short term fix because I have lived out of the country for a while and as such have no credit record.
I asked my friend if I could use her card to pay an administration fee IF I was offered a loan. She agreed.I was led to believe by Welcome Loans that I had a loan and used her card to pay the fee.
They took the money from her account and there was a totally unsuitable loan arranged. It needed a guarantor which I didn't have. I contacted the police who have said that my friend may have a case.
I had pre-warned Welcome Loans that they did not have her permission to take the money and they still took it.

So you gave your friends card details to pay a fee so how can you claim they didn't have your friends permission ?
Still cant undersdtand why you thought a call to the police was needed since no theft occured if anything your friend should be moaning at you or at herself for giving her card details to WL. I hope you call the non emergency number and not 999.0 -
Please explain how i missed the point ?
The point is, you paid £70 for someone to find you a loan, you asked for a refund, you haven't received it. Calling them clowns, thieves and losers after you gave them your bank details is a bit of a joke really.
I think that maybe you missed the point when you agreed to use them. So why did you cancel ?
This forum is full of really useful information, especially about people like WelcomeLoans, maybe do a bit of research first next time eh ? It's also full of people like you who use companies like this without really understanding what they're agreeing to.
Cancelling within 14 days doesn't give them much time to come up with a loan for you so you haven't really given them time to provide ehat you paid for.
How do you know that they weren't going to come back to you with a loan ?"
Just so we're clear...- I didn't canx because of any research I'd done neither was because of anything I read about them. The barrage of txtx/emails offering loans were at extortionate rates and not suitable for what I was looking for.
- Cancelling within 14 days doesn't given them time to find a loan for me????????? I had loan offeres within minutes of completing the application
- I was receieved 20-30 loan offers by txt/email
- The T&C's are quite clear in that as long as you write to canx the loan within 14days it will be refunded
- I fully understood the T&C's
- Hence I still don't get your point??!
Bottom line...I applied, I paid the fee, I am entitled to a refund, they haven't (and probably won't without more of a fight) refund the money, I'll continue to persue them.
As a redsaxon has said below these companies exist (and continue to exisit) purely on charging and then witholding that fee.0 -

I think you misunderstood how WelcomeLoans works (or didn't read the info on their website)
The administration fee isn't due IF you are offered a loan, it's a fee which is charged for them to FIND you a loan. Once they have found you a loan, you decide whether to take it. They are just a broker. If the guarantor loan was totally unsuitable you are quite within your rights to say "no thanks" but the fee will stand.
Why did you contact the Police, what are you expecting them to do ? Why are we advised to "watch this space" ?0
