I wouldn't have a problem with paying for a packing service but crikey I don't think I could look them in the face after giving them that horrendous job!! :rotfl:
  • No time at all as I paid for packers to do it for me, they packed a large 4 bed house up in roughly 7 hours.....magic!
  • I'm hoping less than a day since we need to do packing, cleaning and (hopefully) drinking this weekend ... good job it's a bank holiday!

2 Minutes..We took a tv and a lawnmower and the clothes on our backs...gave the rest away..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

  • Time before last it literally took weeks.......but we were moving from a pretty large house ;) We particularly wanted to do it ourselves as I am paranoid about irreplaceable things getting damaged and as the removals were already costing in excess of £4k we would have been reluctant to shell out more for them to pack for us!

When we moved again last year it still took over a week to pack everything up and even then we had a bit of a panic on removals day when we realised we had more junk in an out building than we'd expected so had to call on a rubbish clearance co to collect it and dispose of it as we had no time to take it to the dump. If we'd been better organised we'd have had a skip beforehand, but we were moving long distance and the move happened rather quicker than we'd envisaged :o

Hopefully that was our last move - although I do have fantasies about buying a flat in London when we're 'retired' - so we won't be doing it again any time soon.......

Hope it all goes well for you OP :)

Yes, definitely. We moved a couple of months ago, and it was amazing what a difference it made to the move. They were SO much faster than we would have been (3 bed house packed and removed within a day). Nothing was damaged, and they even unpacked everything from the boxss at the other end so that by the evening of moving day, we were settled in instead of living out of boxes for days.

    Do it!

Packing service was brilliant for the move last november, as I cannot even pack the dishwasher on a daily basis without OH redoing it. Plus we were moving from Oxford to Northwest so time was of the essence.
At this end, they moved everything in, unpacked most stuff apart from the books as the new shelves weren't up. We only had about 3 boxes after the first week, which were the boxes of random stuff we maybe don't need. But still have, completing on the purchase of new house today.
Only damage was to one of the cheapish sofas, where a leg fell off, but as the other one had done the same at home with me, not a problem. 1 threaded bar and it was reattached.
This time, as we have to rent this place into October, and as we would prefer to paint etc without having to heft furniture, it's going to be gradual few bits at a time job then a van hire for the furniture at the end.

We're going to do that too. We're in rented and looking at giving our notice so we can leave October 17th. I really wish we could move faster but a) the house we're buying is in need of a bit of TLC and b) I have so much going on in September, I'd rather stay put. Although I am not relishing the fact that we will have to pay 2 council tax :(

We're lucky we're living in a one bedroom flat. But we have a garage which I call the garage of doom! We already ordered a half ton bag that was pick up the other day, full of rubbish that wasn't even sellable on ebay, and there is more in there  I anticipate it'll take me a week to pack and declutter, as I have to work as well. I have to keep thinking: new home, new home, new home :rotfl:
