Sky HD & 3D

Options
I'm perplexed by all the sky packages, and HD and 3D is all new to me.

I live in a non cabled area, so Sky is the main option.
Currently, I have Sky plus, and 2 multiroom boxes, my payment being £61 per month.

I've just treated myself to a new HD Tv with 3D, and the independent installer recommended upgrading my Sky package.

On looking at the upgrade, it said just £10.25 extra, but on speaking to an agent, that's not the case. I was told, I had to pay £84 something....I had fallen off my chair at that point, so missed the pence part :o
That's £23 odd more than I'm currently paying. The reason given, is that I have to pay extra for Sky sports...I don't want it, and then something about the multiroom?? We only have the one HD Tv.

Can anyone put me right, and explain things. I was looking forward to having these extra facilities, but I can't justify that amount.

Regards
Munchie

You can get all the package information from the Sky web site or by phoning Sky and getting a (UK) operator who knows what he/she is talking about. There's bound to be a few who can't explain it. I'm not certain but I think it's something like this:-

You can't have Sky HD without a Sky+HD Digibox. So you'll have to buy a used box or a new box. I think the cost of a new one from Sky is about £250 so £84 is a good discount. But you can get a used one off eBay for less.

To be able to watch encrypted HD channels (i.e. not just the free ones) you'll have to pay Sky an additional £10.25 per month.

If you also want a second card to use in another Digibox, you'll have to pay Sky an additional £10.25 per month. (Sounds as if you don't, so ignore that.)

So decide what you want and whether you want to afford it then do whatever's necessary.

There is only get ONE dedicated 3D channel, but it's available free to anyone with the HD pack. Multiroom is not required.

    Hi "munchings n krunchings"

I will try and explain it for you. Well done on getting an HDTV, you will really experience a difference! (dunno about the 3D as i dont have a 3d set)

Basically to get Sky 3D you need to subscribe to everything (i.e. entertainment extra + sports + movies + HD)

    Sky entertainment pack = 21.50
Extra add-on (i.e. more channels with entertainment pack = +5
    Sky movies package = +16
    Sky sports package = +21
HD Pack = +10.25 (only one charge per household no matter how many HD tvs.)

If you get it all it is called the "sky world" bundle which is £55.50
Then HD pack is +10.25 on top

Now to have additional boxes in the house you need (and already have) multiroom subscriptions. These cost £10.25 PER BOX

Therefore the charge you have been quoted is

    Sky world = £55
    Multiroom x2 = 20.50
    HD sub = 10.25
    Total = 85.75 a month

Now personally, i don't think skys 3D offering is all that at the moment and seeing that you dont like sport its an unnecessary extra expenditure. I would probably stick with your current package BUT add the HD subscription. You will still be able to watch the odd 3D thing when the bbc show it (e.g. olympics, wimbledon etc) and then invest in a 3d blu-ray player and use that for your 3d film entertainment.

The post above from moneymaker is not entirely correct. If you do not have a sky HD box currently they will upgrade you to an standard Sky+HD box for free. (only one box, which is what you need.)

Also a helpful thought. Do you watch many sky channels on both multiroom boxes? If you find you watch mainly free to air channels (e.g. bbc, itv, channel 4, 5 group) then it may be better to stop the multiroom subscription on that box and save a tenner a month. You'll still get those channels through your sky box.

Hope that helps a little bit. If u have had sky for a while why don't you say that you will leave as it is too expensive for what you want and they may offer you a discount. There are plenty of people who have done that.

"The UK and Ireland’s only dedicated 3D TV channel"

Can you list any other 3D channels?.
    Not Box Office, that's PPV.
Not BBC HD, they only broadcast sometimes in 3D.

Sorry no that wasn't my point, I should have been clearer, you stated that it was available to any one with the HD pack.
