April 2007 Grocery Challenge

Lesson Learned...... never go to cash and carry with DH and FIL. We came back with £35 of stuff and nit much to show for it:
Cheese (huge block), chicken thighs, box of crisps for weekday lunches, black pudding, sausages, youghurts. Hopefully most of this will last a month and a half (at least) so in the long run will be leveled out.
Also... a Tesco shop: £16 - reduced haggis x2, reduced brussels x3, pineapple, strawbs, cat food, cat biscs, reduced garlic naan, loo roll.
Budget already well and truely blown. Next month I'm starting with a clean slate rather than trying to rescue the pennies I've gone overApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Hi All
This is the first time i have joined this challenge, although i have been doing it on and off for some time now (need to stick to it!)
I have been doing the month without supermarkets challenge (from middle of Feb to March) and found it to be great! I have never really enjoyed shopping at Mr T's or the others so set myself the target and managed to get most of what i needed from local suppliers or other sources (ie loo rolls from ebay!!:rotfl: ). Anyway, i managed to save £26 from my £200 a month budget for 2 adults and 2 small children (4 and 1).
I shall still continue to steer clear of supermarkets but thought i would join here to still get the support!
thanks xBuy nothing for a month challenge - Oct

Hi, everyone seems to be giving this a good go!
I'm trying to be good and sticking only to the cash in my shopping purse. I couldn't resist the Ben and Jerry's offer on Mr T's though.. BUT.. I paid myself back out of my 'fun' purse! Giving myself a pat on the back for not cheating and a bowlful of Cherry Garcia..mmm.One debt v 100 days Part 14 £400/£400

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this thread, but had already set myself a grocery challenge for the month - then found you (hoorah!) and boy am I pleased as I think I will need some encouragement! In the last week of March I managed to go a whole week buying only a pint of milk, I have plenty in my freezer / fridge / pantry including loads of herbs and spices, basics etc. I'm also going away for a week and food then will come out of a different budget. So for me it's £20 for food for the remainder of the month. Petrol, household stuff etc comes from somewhere else.
Thanks for the inspiration!0 -
went to Asda today to get Easter eggs for kids and hubs. Came to about £7 as hubs has been so good lately doing everything whilst I've been sufferuing with the morning sickness, so I decided to splurge and get him a nice big egg. The kids ones are tiny but then the kids are tiny so thats ok!
Total so far for month must be about £108 ? Will update sig in a tick.
Need to do a menu plan tomorrow for the following week as I am doing a shop on Friday for any necesseties for the week. We have tons in the cupboard so should easily be able to largely use storecupboard and maybe batch cook into the bargain as freezer is running low!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

I had a budget of £100 for March and spent £97.60. Aiming for £90 this month and doing well so far.
A tip to share: when shopping at Tesco.com, it's useful to know that if you're trying to reach a spend of £50 in order to use a voucher, the BOGOFs and other discounts aren't calculated until the delivery is made. So in effect, you can use the voucher on a basket which comes to less than £50.
If anyone has any money-saving secrets from their families, I'd love to hear them. I take my husband's razors out of the bin, clean them and put them back in the packet... shh!Have I said something useful?

Okay did the shopping yesterday for next week. Did the meal plan first and stuck to my list. Managed to spend £32.14 :j have a couple of bits to buy, e.g. fresh rolls and salad for later in the week but that should be all.
So now have £84.65 to see me to the end of the month!!!0 -
Have already spent £25 out of £80 budget and it is still 5th of the month.
Am actually struggling to stick to the budget.
Have been thinking of check the kitchen cupboards for items that I can cook and freeze so that I spend lee in the next week's grocery shopping.
Good Luck to Everyone0 -

Hi,
I haven't joined in for a couple of months and have let things slip a bit. This month I have had my gran and sister staying with me for 10 days  and they have eaten me out of house and home. I have also wanted to be the hostess with the mostest so have bought tons and spent lots.
So this month I'm back on the wagon and hope to spend no more than £100 on groceries and cleaning stuff/toiletries.
Easter eggs have been bought already and I have no big plans for April so hopefully I'll be able to stick to it!
Am going to try to use up whats left over from the hungry hoards (not much!) this week and not go shopping until Thursday/Friday.
Does anyone know if supermarkets (Tesco) will be open on Good Friday?
Thanks and good luck to everyone
R x
Well managed to get to Thursday evening without shopping and the good news is that the OH came and bought it all! He usually chips in evey now and then ( he pays other bills normally) but after traipsing around Tesco with him like an overgrown child wanting everything in sight he paid for the lot! It should last us around 2 weeks and rather than my more economical approach we have a ton of the posh stuff that we usually have for treats! (more fool him - I did try to talk him out of stuff but he was adamant!)
I also have enoough toiletries to last 2 or 3 weeks so it should just be bits and pieces to buy for a while.
However, I did pop in and spent £7 this afternoon, the first spend of the month.
Hopefully on course for less than £100 this month.:j0
